I had the extraordinary privilege to join 119 other mamas/birthing persons, on Wednesday, to advocate for our Nations’ maternal mental health. MMHLA, along with Mocha Moms, and PSI are comprised of truly amazing human beings, whose presence, even via zoom, had a deep impact on the lens through which I see the realities of other mamas: the struggles we have/have had in common, and those unique to them and their experiences as women/non-binary people from intersecting identities, some different than my own. As an advocate, telling the painful details of my journey through perinatal mood and anxiety disorders was hard on many levels- AND it gifted me with the beauty of creating space for the rewriting of my story, to include grace, persistence and strength, where there has only been the shadow of overwhelming guilt and shame. By refusing to remain silent, and giving voice to the horrors I survived, there came a renewed determination to help others feel less isolated in their own hard truths; standing together- armed with the empowerment of a battalion of survivors - we gave a face to the statistics, asking our country’s elected officials to prioritize the funding of resources that will help to prevent suffering, trauma, self harm, and the needless loss of lives due to maternal mental health disorders and crises. #mothersareanonpartisonissue #maternalmentalhealth #MOMSACTof2024 #perinatalmentalhealth
Our Maternal Mental Health Advocacy Day was a SUCCESS! 120 advocates educated 118 Congressional Offices about maternal mental health and requested their support of critical programs and policies that help moms and birthing people! Thank you to Mocha Moms Inc and Postpartum Support International for partnering with us! #maternalmentalhealth #perinatalmentalhealth #postpartumdepression #PMADs

In mental health, it is hard to differentiate between problems that involve individuals and problems that are systemic. Problems effecting individuals most of the time have a systemic underpinning so it can be hard differentiating what the difference between what systemic advocacy and individual advocacy can do for consumers. We have put together this handy resource aimed at helping you in navigating what support works best for you! https://lnkd.in/gcjNGTdg
