☝ In recent years, cities with large #immigrant populations, progressive politics, and numerous civil society organisations, have created sanctuary policies, as well as noncitizen voting, identification, labour, and language access rights for #immigrants. ❓ But what do immigrant rights struggles look like in cities with less hospitable contexts of reception, such as #Houston, #Texas? ☝ Read a new blog post by Els de Graauw to get the answers: https://bit.ly/46P4DU1.

I love helping non-status clients by providing #mentalhealth evaluations. #immigrationlaw is confusing and many #immigrants don’t know that they rights in America (but they do!). In a study the Journal of immigration of Minority Health, they found that asylum cases that included evaluations had an 89 % success rate versus the national average of 37 .5%! So, if I can assist you or someone you know with their evaluation , please let me know. #mentalhealthawareness #citizenship

"Invest in local and state work where opportunities to advance welcoming, inclusive, and other pro-immigrant policies abound." 3. "Invest in long-term, durable movement infrastructure." Seeking asylum is a human right. Unfortunately, President Biden’s June 4th proclamation is in contradiction to this right, as well as our country’s laws, which state that all people arriving in the United States may present their claims for protection regardless of their manner of entry. The proclamation shuts off any access to asylum protections for all but an extreme minority of people arriving at the southern border of the United States—regardless of their reason for migrating. Manzanita House has had the honor of working with many asylum seekers who would have been unable to seek safety for themselves and their families if this proclamation had been in effect. It’s disheartening to know that this restriction to access asylum protections will now put countless individuals and families at risk – forcing them to return to potentially unsafe, unstable, and insecure circumstances. We believe it’s our duty to advocate for policies that treat each person with respect, value human dignity, and truly purpose to understand the reason why so many individuals and families are seeking safety in the United States. What a powerful message. It's definitely something I've experienced as an immigrant child; I've been doing my parents' taxes since I was 14, as shocking as that may sound. Other children have to translate things they barely comprehend. And this is, and will be the case for so many children and young people we work with. Raising awareness about this will hopefully help other professionals to be more mindful of the migrant experience. When working with this particular group of CYP, it's always worth considering their experiences in terms of more than just education. #EAL #migrant #immigrant
