The Alzheimer's Association® and SAGE have an upcoming event that focuses on providing compassionate and inclusive care for LGBTQ individuals living with dementia. On World Social Justice Day, Our Spot KC reaffirms our dedication to advancing equity within our communities. The humble journey of the Smiling Rainbow platform begins on February 19, 2019, with only one mission: SHARING PAIN MUST NOT BE EXPENSIVE. Over this period we have provided free counseling to thousands of individuals nationwide. Initially, our platform catered exclusively to members of the LGBTQ+ community. Over time, however, we began to receive inquiries and calls from individuals of various backgrounds. Based on our experience we have observed many trends in society, whereas few trends are ironic and on the other hand few are disturbing. In an attempt to spread awareness, we are going to share many such information in our #NoMotivationOnlyInformation campaign. The purpose of that series is simply to spread information in society instead of motivation.   No one desires to succumb to depression. When individuals find themselves immersed in the depths of despair, all they seek is steadfast support to prevent them from sinking. We aspire to be that unwavering support, by offering a new, comprehensive platform that provides free or affordable counseling for all without discrimination. We did our best for years to ensure  #FreeCounselingServiceForAll. Finally, we had to stop our free counseling service from August 2023 onwards due to a funding constraint. Here is how SAGE, a nonprofit dedicated to addressing issues related to LGBTQ+ people and aging, uses data to reveal unmet needs and ensure their communities are seen. First, SAGE uses data to ensure their programs make an impact by answering questions such as:  -Do our service programs meet the needs of the people they serve? -Has engaging in SAGE programs improved the lives?  -Who aren’t we adequately serving? -What public policies are needed to address the unmet needs?  -Are our training programs effective? Second, they use surveys to gain a better understanding of community satisfaction and uncovering unmet needs. For example, SAGE discovered through intake interviews a high incidence of housing insecurity among its constituents. This led to the creation of the National LGBTQ+ Housing Initiative. Finally, because they collect so much quality data, they are able to help partner organizations answer questions about their community. They worked with the National Aging and Disability Transportation Center (NADTC) to better understanding of its clients’ unmet needs and provide better transportation options. Remembering #WorldAIDSDay ❤️Reflecting on all those lost and the demonisation/pain of entire minority communities from the 1980s.❤️ 1️⃣Stigma has reduced significantly in high income countries but still remains an issue in different nations globally. 2️⃣HIV prevention and treatment has came along way since the first test was developed in mid 1980s. 3️⃣For a person living with HIV: Antiretroviral therapy with effectice adherence is 99% effective at reducing the risk of the virus being passed on: U-U undetectable~untransmittable. 4️⃣Someone living with HIV who uses on ARV and is undetectable lives as long as someone without HIV. 5️⃣For a person not living with HIV: PrEP or pre-exposure prophylaxis (an ARV medication) with effective adherence reduces the risk of them contracting HIV by up to 99%. 📢These are great advances but more work is needed in global equality to reduce HIV stigma that continues to affect minority communities.📢
