Wrapping some things makes sense.. whilst wrapping others… just royally FORKS the planet. And it’s about time we talk about it. 🍴👀 There are a lot of parallels between mainstream condoms and dishwasher tablets - including a whole lotta gross chemicals. When we launched HANX, we formulated our condoms to be as natural as possible for happier, healthier sex (and our community are loving it!). We love that Homethings is working in parallel, not only ditching the single use plastic wrappings loved by the cleaning big boys, but stripping out the toxic ingredients, too. 🌎 HOW DID IT ALL CAME TOGETHER? Let’s talk about reuse, ♻️, one of the most important steps to implement if we want to transition to a #circulareconomy. In this episode of #BelieveCircular, myself and Sarah Tosone who works for BoomerangAlliance (where she focuses on finding ways and new systems to expand the everyday use of #ReusableCups in our society) breakdown the opportunities and challenges around this topic. Together we explore the why, the how, the benefits and discuss how recyclable a coffee cup is in Australia. Drylock Technologies Unveils Compostable Diaper Drylock and Love & Green have announced a revolutionary innovation in the form of the world’s first #compostable #diaper. Combining softness and high-class performance, the new product is essentially biobased and biodegradable at the same time. Always pushing the boundaries of sustainability, both companies have already developed and marketed various hygiene products with distinct ecological features, such as unbleached fluff, biobased liners and paper packaging. The recent two-year research project now culminates in the development of a biodegradable and compostable diaper. Jules Van Malderen, business development director at Drylock Technologies comments: “We are committed to naturality and circularity, so to have a global first compostable diaper was an obvious target for us. However, it was not easy - and together with our commercial and scientific partners, we were constantly on the edge of what is currently technologically possible. At this point in time, we do not recommend people to compost soiled diapers at home, for reasons of health and hygiene. However, by launching this diaper, we allow institutes like hospitals and kindergartens, where products are used professionally and can be efficiently collected, to choose an ecofriendly, low impact solution.” To guarantee a product performance that is comparable to other top grade baby diapers, the product concept is based on Drylock’s proprietary and patented channels technology, as well as on other technologies in the field of nonwovens and bio compositions, for which patents are pending. Drylock and Love&Green stress the importance of being fully compostable. Van Malderen explains why: “Intellectually, there is no such thing as being partially compostable. Either you’re compostable - or you’re not.” Aside from being compostable in any standard composting facility, the product content consists of materials that are based on natural, vegetable origins for 80 to 90% - and it is the objective to push this over the 90% limit in the near future. Caroline Chepkemoi from Kericho County broods chicks using an #automatic #broodermachine, where she broods chicks from a day old to when they are ready for the market. Now, this automatic brooder automatically regulates the temperatures so that it doesn't exceed 30.9 degrees C , if it does, an alarm turns on and the machine goes off so that the heat is not too much for the chicks. The automatic brooder also purifies the air which makes it safe for the chicks. The automatic brooder is connected to  a #CCTV and #WiFi and she can comfortably #monitor the chicks from her #phone. The machine uses #cleanenergy as it can be solar or electricity powered. The #automatic #brooder can brood up to 1000 chicks. She trains people on chicks brooding and charges about Ksh. 300 per person as well as broods chicks at 50sh per chick for those who bring their chicks for her. Chicks brooding initiatives provide women with a #sustainable source of #income, enabling them to take charge of their financial well-being while offering a platform for skills development.
