Happy Juneteenth! Today we commemorate the emancipation of over 250,000 enslaved African Americans in Texas on June 19, 1865, by Union troops. This day, also known as the effective end of slavery, was dubbed #Juneteenth by the newly freed slaves and signified the importance of never losing hope.
