Proud to support last week’s Women United Power of the Purse event. The event included inspiring and entertaining words from the legendary Rita Moreno and spotlighted the incredible generosity of the Greater Hartford community to support families on their journey to financial security and empowerment. More than $373,000 was raised! Thank you to our guests Kimberly Young, MBA, Patti Fazio and Rachel Lenda for joining us. Shout out to our very own Tara Linton, Senior Director, Communications, for a job well done as sponsorship co-chair. We expect great things from her as the co-chair of this amazing event next year! 😉 United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut Sean Folan AnnMarie Kemp Maria Ciriello Suzanne Carbonella Ann Robertson (Bauerlein) #agencylife #UnitedWay #POP24

I am where I am today, because other women shared their knowledge and expertise freely. There's nothing more inspiring that women supporting women, because we know it's not a competition. There's room for us all to be successful. I carry a piece of each female mentor with me. Jenny Amory, taught me to negotiate prices and leverage nonprofit discounts. Kathryn A. (Katie) Wheeler taught me how to preserve authors' voices while editing. Katie Bayerl taught me how to apply a DBIE lens to my writing. Namrata Patel taught me to invest in my teams' present and futures and to make safe space for mistakes. Beth Bryant taught me how to refine my data analysis and projections. Laurie Heller taught me how to design within brand standards. Cassidy Leighton taught me so much about email accessibility. Tasha Booker M.ED taught me how to navigate the politics of organizations and leadership. To find myself now at the Trustees, surrounded by this talented sisterhood, is such a blessing.
We celebrate Women's History Month to remind everyone of the achievements of women throughout the years in our culture and society, and their significant moments in history. Women have always been an important part of The Trustees’ story—shaping the organization from its beginnings to the current day. Miss Ellen Chase and Mrs. Fanny Foster Tudor are named as the only two “Founders” in the Trustees’ 2nd Annual Report (1892), an acknowledgement of their donations of $1,000 or more in land or money. Other early supporters include Bostonians Sarah Crocker and Anna T. Phillips, Mary Sophia Walker of Waltham and Amelia Peabody, was the largest landover in the town of Dover at one point. Powisset Farm and Noanet Woodlands came to The Trustees from Ms. Peabody. Barbara J. Erickson joined The Trustees in 2012 as its first female President & CEO and in 2023, Katie Theoharides become the second female President & CEO. Today we honor the women of The Trustees. Women hold positions across the organization, from rangers to curators to ecologists to marketing and so much more. Women are represented in every area of The Trustees organization, and we couldn't be prouder of that. To all the women of The Trustees we want to say THANK YOU for your contributions and lasting impact. #TheTrustees #WomensHistoryMonth #WomenoftheTrustees #Accessibility [Description: Photo grid showing some of the women who work for The Trustees in their various roles at the organization.]

It's hard to believe that this is unfolding. Fearless Fund (a not-for-profit) & Arian Simone champions women of color in business by bridging the gap when it comes to funding. They provide capital, education, grant programs and resources to create a more equal world in business - because less than 1% of all VC dollars ($288 billion) goes to Black women, and less than 2% of funding overall. To put that in perspective, that's $2.8 billion. Half of what was invested into WeWork alone! Opportunities and grant programs like these are essential to underrepresented founders. This is how we create a world where all ideas and innovation are heard. A world where women, people of color and minority groups have the opportunity to create meaningful wealth too. A different world. Here's how you can help in less than 30 seconds: Sign the petition or donate to the fundraiser 👉 www.fearlessfreedomnow.org

This information comes as no surprise, but it demands our attention and it demands action. Women are underrepresented in the halls of power --> the wage gap persists --> policy reflects both --> women are underrepresented in the halls of power --> and on and on. It's time to make it easier for everyone to give how and when they can, and it's time to make it easier for the everyday person to raise the funds they need to run for office. Donors need engagement and flexible donation options. Fundraisers need more time to spend nurturing donors and talking to voters. (pssst - it's why we created GoodChange. We have those things that make it easier.) https://lnkd.in/gKZdRQxs #politicaltech #donors #goodchange #runforsomething #fundraising

During the second annual #GiveToWomenAndGirls Day last week, Women’s Philanthropy Institute released new findings in their 2023 Women & Girls Index. Frustratingly, one statistic remains stagnant: Less than 2% of overall charitable giving goes to organizations serving women and girls. We can't afford to lose momentum. It's time to move the needle on giving with a gender lens. How are you stepping up to fund the movement for gender equality?
NEW RESEARCH | To kick off #GiveToWomenAndGirls Day, we released new findings from our fifth annual Women & Girls Index, the only comprehensive index measuring giving to women’s and girls’ organizations in the U.S. Explore the findings to learn more about the philanthropic landscape for women and girls: https://lnkd.in/gKnWGz7Q

Where should we look? * Then what? What are you supposed to do when you find a hidden rule? #nonprofit #equity

Creating partnership to build awareness, engage communities, and unite teams for a healthier tomorrow.
If you know me, you know I LOVE non-profits (made a career of it!) and I live in a reduce, reuse, recycle state of mind (making a lifestyle of it). I won’t lie, it can be taxing. It takes time and commitment, but it makes me feel good and there’s value in that. With reusing comes the interest in donating physical items to keep them out of landfills. I have a hard time just tossing, or blind donating .... sorry larger entities that take items, you're still on my list, just my LAST resort. I really like to find a good home and a good fit. I use my friends/family for ideas, search the web for local entities (non-profits?!), and sometimes I get lucky finding places that feel like a good fit. This week, I took my lunch hour to donate some of my gently used stuffed animals to the Hmong American Women's Association, Inc. (https://lnkd.in/gKjgvj8b) They were responsive to my emails (this has been a struggle with the numerous others contacted for this and other donations), timely with scheduling a drop and the kindest upon meeting and giving me a tour. Thank you for taking my donations and providing them to others who can use some love and snuggles! I look forward to assisting you more in the future. Note they take home, and children’s items as well. Contact them for their current needs. Would you like to see my list of favorite donation locations? It’s currently short and sweet (just like me) but it’s growing (also like me) with your suggestions. What are some of your favorite spots to donate to, name & and location? Bonus points if they take trickier items!
