A thoughful and alarming article about meetings. 'Too many and innefective' is the gist of it. But the headline stats are worrying: 63% of meetings don’t have a set agenda, and a full 37% don’t have an agenda at all. Executives spent around 23 hours per week in meetings in 2017 (and that number has risen dramatically since the pandemic), up from around 10 hours in the 1960s. 83% of employees spend about one third of their work week in meetings We'd like to suggest that maybe it's time to get rid of the word 'Meetings' altogether. It doesn't suggest an outcome. So let's have strategy sessions, collaborations, decision-making conclaves - anything that makes participants believe there is a reason for attending. https://lnkd.in/ggx2XhEN

Meetings Are Still a Huge Drain on Your Productivity Unnecessary meetings and time wasted in meetings are more than just a minor inconvenience. With employees attending an average of 18 hours of meetings weekly, nearly a third of which are considered a waste, the financial implications are staggering. Ft’s estimated to cost $25,000 per employee per year. Of course, since this waste never appears as a liabillity on the balance sheet, it’s hard to get executives of focus on this problem. But if you want to increase your performance by a factor of five to ten times, it's a fertile area to focus on. If you do, you will stand point from the pack. #WorkSkills, #21stCenturyskills

During the lunch breaks of one my jobs, workers would use their one precious hour to vent. About how they felt unseen, how the feedback was directionless and how they felt undermined and ultimately disengaged with the whole process. I used to think that this problem was unique to organisation I was working at but that is not true. According to the survey by mmhmm: - 45% American workers complain that their meetings are too long - 50% American workers would rather send an email/text/ voice message - 47% American workers say that more than half the meetings they attend could be cancelled. If you are serious about making collaboration work, then workshops with trained facilitators can be a game changer. As per the post by Rebecca Courtney: (https://lnkd.in/djyiTsqN ) 🛠 A facilitator can streamline discussions, ensuring all voices are heard without letting meetings drag on. 🛠 They ensure clear agendas and defined outcomes, hitting those key points that make meetings valuable. 🛠 By managing group dynamics, a facilitator can ensure that the meeting's objective is achieved efficiently. https://lnkd.in/g4qmqmJU #facilitation #meetingculture #legoseriousplay #designsprints #anusshagupta
