Did you know Pride Month is held in June to commemorate the Stonewall Uprising, a series of clashes between police and LGBTQ+ protesters that stretched over six days in 1969? Daily Harvest stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community's fight for equality year-round, and we're committed to creating a culture where everyone can bring their full selves to work. Our LGBTQ+ team members' voices matter, and this month we are spotlighting Andrew Noyes (he/him), our VP of Communications and Corporate Affairs! 🏳️🌈 What does Pride Month mean to you? Pride Month is a time to celebrate authenticity with the acknowledgment that the journey of self-acceptance and embracing the courage required to be visible in one’s community and in the workplace is not won easily and isn’t afforded to all. Beyond rainbow flags and parades, Pride Month underscores the ongoing pursuit of equality and inclusion and the fact that many LGBTQ+ individuals are still fighting for not only acceptance, but their lives and livelihoods. Pride Month reaffirms the power of representation and the responsibility we all have to advocate for meaningful change, both within the workplace and in society at large.   ❤️ Is there anyone who significantly impacted your journey of self-discovery? My mother was the single biggest supporter of my coming out and, as many moms do, knew I was gay before I was ready to acknowledge it myself. She allowed me the time to embrace it on my own terms, and in the meantime, was a staunch supporter of LGBTQ+ rights in my small rural hometown. Her commitment to the LGBTQ+ community was a lifelong calling, in addition to her work in public health and social services. Long after I grew up and moved away, she led an effort to amend a local ordinance to include sexual orientation and gender identity as protected classes from discrimination. She was a hero to me and many. 🤝 Do you have any advice for LGBTQ+ individuals having difficulty expressing themselves authentically at work? I’m fortunate to have had a career and employers that recognize that diverse perspectives drive success and workplaces that foster community and understanding are happier, healthier, and more productive. Creating a more inclusive and accepting environment for yourself and others isn’t always easy, so the single biggest piece of advice I can give is to seek out fellow LGBTQ+ peers and to form a support network. Joining Daily Harvest’s LGBTQIA employee resource group was one of the first things I did when I arrived at the company! Having a trusted circle, both within an organization and in the broader professional community, can provide mentorship, guidance, advocacy and more. #pridemonth #LGBTQ+ #employeeresourcegroup
