We only succeed when you succeed. Our 5% royalty model only kicks in after your first $1M in gross revenue, meaning that if you make $1,000,001 you owe us 5 cents. And this is per title! Also, revenue generated from the Epic Games Store will be excluded from that 5% royalty. You don't need to worry about the long tail either. Even if you've passed the $1M mark for a single title, if that title grosses less than $10,000 for a calendar quarter then you don't owe us any royalty payments that quarter.

It's funny how Unity is handing over their loyal community to Epic in a silver platter. We have to wait and see how different segments of the market react to this. While a very large portion of developers might not get affected by the changes in Unity's new pricing model, some segments (e.g. less established hypercasual developers/publishers) are likely to take a massive hit, and this will impact the mobile market as a whole. In my opinion this is probably a strategy to strengthen Unity's other business lines such as their ad mediation. So we'll probably see a lot of discounts for users that adopt more unity services. Ultimately, I don't feel very good about a single company wanting to have so much control over my game's data, monetization, and infrastructure. P.S. Well played Unreal team! Unity just saved you millions on marketing/branding costs. 😆

We can only guess about Unity true intentions and plans! However, if they were designed as a means to boost the Unity profits, then the most peculiar, out-of-touch with reality, and self-discrediting strategy was chosen) I doubt there are many companies out there that started making more by messing with their customers' trust! PS: the post below is an example of how it should be done!

Although I was “avoiding” commenting much on the ongoing, very unfortunate layoff situation that has been plaguing the gaming industry past months, this article by Polygon sheds light on the turbulence facing AAA titles in particular, exemplified by the recent news on Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and Sony layoffs. These shifts signal a potentially precarious future for established gaming giants, raising questions about the sustainability of traditional AAA models. It’s a stark reminder of the need for resilience and adaptation in an industry facing rapid change. #GamingIndustry #Uncertainty #FinalFantasy7 #Sony #Polygon
