A platform designed to democratise access to the media and give a voice to the unheard. It's our way of ensuring that no story is too small, no voice is too quiet. 📣 Little Book provides a platform for incredible people with fascinating stories and insights. These are voices and stories that deserved to be heard, perspectives that could enlighten and inspire change. However, they often lacked the PR budget to amplify their messages. Here's how it works in 3 simple steps: 1. Fill out the short form (link in comments). 2. Receive weekly hook topics and notify us about your relevant expertise or interests. 3. Review and choose from the media opportunities we share with you. We believe that every story matters and everyone deserves a chance to be heard. Empowering Asian, Black, and Latine-led newsrooms in fundraising CCM is excited to announce its inaugural Fundraising for Community Media cohort, a group of 15 AAPI, Black, and Latine-led newsrooms who will be empowered to learn fundraising strategies. The tuition-free program, in collaboration with The Lenfest Institute for Journalism’s News Philanthropy Network, is the first of its kind, and was designed to address the specific issues of media leaders of color. The rate of news outlets closing across the U.S. is increasing, illustrating the challenges of running a media outlet. Philanthropy has helped sustain some news operations, but nonprofit funding has historically not been beneficial for leaders of color. The jobs of community media publishers continue to be difficult as they face the challenges of navigating often walled-off funding opportunities, access to government agency advertising money, and the precarious nature of the journalism industry as a whole. However, news philanthropy continues to remain an important potential lifeline for community media and organizations that support these publishers and journalists on the frontlines of daily American life. Media funders like the collaborative Press Forward initiative have made headlines of late for their announcements of multi-million dollar funding rounds. Our cohort was chosen from a pool of over 80 applicants. These traditional and digital-first news operations serve a diversity of Asian American, Latine, multiracial, and Black communities. In fiscal year 2023, EMpower hosted 41 events around the world that meaningfully engaged young people as spokespersons and/or contributors. For close to 20 years, EMpower has sought to intentionally position and heed the wisdom of young people, especially girls, in our programmes. Today, we are systematically listening to young people and harnessing their perspectives in every region in which we work. This approach comes from a deeply held belief and value: there is no greater expert on the lives of young people than young people themselves. They have deep insights into the challenges they face and possible solutions and opportunities—all based on their lived experiences. Young people have a fundamental place in EMpower’s vision and strategy, and we are committed to creating space more broadly for their voices in philanthropy.
