Find a job “in the arena” 🏟️ I was discussing Roosevelt’s famous speech with a friend who’s looking for a new job. This was my recommendation to her: find a job “in the arena.” Own a challenging problem. Inspire and coach a team. Draft a vision and get people to challenge it, then design it together. Make mistakes. Learn. Work hard and try new things. Experiment. Explore paths nobody has taken before. Build something. In our professional lives, our first instinct is to maximize title, salary, reporting line or other “vanity” metrics. Real growth happens when we envision, engage, empower, enable, and execute. This is how we push our limits. This is how we grow. #InTheArena #Leadership #Growth #Advertising #Media #Tech

All the Naval Academy Midshipmen have to memorize this during Plebe Summer. As leaders we choose to be the person in the arena, knowing we will fail and succeed, and be ultimately responsible. More people should be like you and your friend, look for opportunities to be in the arena: daring to fail while striving for triumph!! 👏

100% agree with every single word you've written! Of course salary + title are motivators but not an intrinsic ones. The sense of accomplishment, joy and satisfaction you get from building 0-1 is really what drives great leaders and careers 📈

Love this and couldn’t agree more, Danilo! And in hopefully most cases, this type of more sustainable growth will set a strong foundation for accelerated career advancement later on anyway!

Not only will you find a job, but you will also enjoy your journey and the accomplishments along the way, rather than just waiting to arrive at that perfect destination. Love this, Danilo Tauro, PhD!
