What relaxes you? For me, getting out onto a golf course can be a very relaxing thing, but it can also be a very stressful thing. When I golf with my friends or brother, C.R. Childers, I tend to let it be stressful and frustrating because the desire to compete tends to take over. However, when I am out with my 6-year-old, those same competitive emotions don't exist because I am in a teaching mindset. I am focused on teaching my 6-year-old the game of golf, and I feed off of his desire to learn and want to get better. I sometimes wonder if my golf game would improve for the better if I were to find a happy median between competition and teaching. What about you? What is something you do that can be relaxing but also frustrating? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Top coaches aren’t those with the most drills; they’re those who have the most ways of teaching the same drills ✔ During my visits to numerous schools around the world, I often hear teachers expressing their realization that they’ve been teaching certain concepts wrong for years. Old myths prevail, and technical cues that are easy to remember are favored over those that work best. In my experience, the foundation of effective coaching lies not in complex drills or exhaustive knowledge, but in mastering the fundamentals. That's why my workshops prioritize ingraining the basics and dispelling long-standing myths. It's fascinating to note that the threshold for coaching at a high level isn't as daunting either as one might assume. Rather than inundating educators with an array of drills, the focus should be on cultivating various teaching methods for the same drills 🏃♂️ For example, the straight leg scissor drill can be used to develop posture, stiffness, rhythm, timing, ground contacts, force application, opposite arm and leg action, pelvic control, just to name a few. This approach accommodates students of all abilities, allowing them to grasp core skills to a high standard. So in essence, delivering high-quality PE isn't about the sheer volume of knowledge, but rather the caliber of that knowledge. The impact of using a stroke rate is going to be very different depending on how it’s delivered. The same set is going to a lot different with a parachute, pull buoy, and upside down paddles. Want to help swimmers learn how to set up the stroke fast and effective?  Use tennis balls and a stroke rate. Want to help swimmers learn how to maintain great legs at speed?  Use DragSox and a stroke rate. Want to help them do both?  Use both. There are stages in a fast bowlers development that certain training methods and intervention plans will have limited benefit. This understanding is integral for all coaches. There is limited benefit in changing the technique and working on the kinematics of bowling during the ‘adolescence awkwardness’ phase. They are growing too fast and are changing constantly. What worked for them last week may not next week. It’s not your coaching, it’s the fact you are coaching a bowler who has changed dramatically from last session. Synergistic adaptation- This is the phase where S&C should take priority. Leave the technical work. During these peak growth spurts the bowler will be more sensitive to particular types of training. These are called the windows of opportunity Don’t stress about technique, build the athlete in this stage #maturation #synergysticadaptation #pacelabeducation

Wisdom part 1 - Education in New Zealand a) "The two reasons he [Doug Howlett - top ever try scorer for NZ] was successful were that firstly he was well grounded and secondly his family were very supportive." My take away - don't believe you know everything and learn from those close to you. b) "carve out a balanced life, look to embrace as many activities as possible and achieve as much in your eduction to lay down a platform for future life." My take away - keep learning and discovering new things as this provides inspiration from the strangest of places sometimes! Thoughts? FYI - Book written in 2018
