🎥👀👏CATEGORY: Things I’ve seen that absolutely everyone should see….this short doc: https://lnkd.in/ey-T5tdr I actually come across a number of truly fascinating things while working at KPMG US, but one of the most intriguing was when Leah Lockwood told me about #PrecisionMedicine. The massive paradigm shift of treatment journeys geared to individuals instead of the “average patient” is one of those revelations that feel so correct it’s almost bizarre you haven’t heard of before. At least that’s how clearly and profoundly Art C Gusmano, Kevin Powers, Kristin Pothier, Alasdair Milton, PhD, Laura Walsh, Leah (again), Karla Standish and many other colleagues, thought leaders and eloquent survivors tell the story of how medicine, disease, cancer and #hope should and will change in my (and especially my children’s) lifetime. As a side note - it’s not just the science that’s handled so well here, back at my time at Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) we worked on #healthequity issues and in all these years, even knowing so many smart, knowledgeable, and articulate people like Daniel Rosan, I’ve never heard it illuminated as efficiently as it is here. I saw this doc a month ago and I am still thinking about it. You will too. Wow - 20 years already....! Together, we moved the status quo and its worn-out narratives to show it is possible to do things differently, driven by people's health needs and justice, instead of financial gains. The next 20 years will be about making this the norm towards achieving Health for All, not a charitable exception, and about building productive, inclusive and sustainable ecosystems for R&D that are designed and financed to pursue health and equity objectives. 💪

Many thanks to Mirjana Huic, Nicolas Xander and Pr. Isabelle Durand-Zaleski for their invaluable contributions to our workshop at ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research Europe 2023. The energy during and after the workshop was incredibly positive, with numerous attendees expressing their eagerness to join our project. While the joint clinical assessments (JCA) mark a promising starting point, we must remain mindful that they imply challenges as well. Within ASCERTAIN, our aim is to enable an inclusive engagement journey involving all stakeholders. This journey will encompass fostering innovation, balancing R&D costs with a return on investment, enhancing cost-effectiveness, managing budgetary impacts, ensuring appropriate drug utilization, guaranteeing access and fostering sustainability. This undertaking won't find resolution in the blink of an eye; rather, it's a real journey. The enthusiasm and willingness of our partners, advisory board members and all who shows interest in our project, fills us with optimism regarding our mission. DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE #1 LEADING CAUSE OF DEATH FOR WOMEN IS? And no, it’s not a woman specific disease.    The #1 leading cause of death for women is just like it is for men: Heart Disease    Yet despite this well-documented fact, women are still not equally represented when it comes to the entire drug development process in the clinical trials.   But does it really matter could one ask? Well yes, it very much does. Women and men ARE different -  we can have very different symptoms leading to misdiagnosis and some times too late diagnosis resulting in fatal outcomes. Our bodies are different- even our hearts are smaller and we may need a different kind of treatment than men. But the only way we learn and optimize the diagnosis and treatment of women is to make sure women are not just equally represented in trials but also that the data from both men and women are segregated and studied in the process.   “Women in clinical trials” was the topic at our Women’s Health Network in this week- a well-attended seminar held in Lund at Medicon Village with a line up of stellar speakers zooming on the figures & facts of equal representation in clinical trials, what to do about it. An important discussion not only for women but for our entire society and specific for our life science drug development.   Our mission at Medicon Valley Alliance is not only to bring awareness to this area but we see this as a potential “competitive edge “ for our Danish-Swedish region if we become a hub for research, development of drugs and design of medical devices not just for men but also for women.
