My thoughts on the situation of early stage deep tech investing in India. Amazingly written by Elizabeth Shilpa Abraham It’s important to start a discussion in this direction so the overall ecosystem learns and improves! #deeptech #india
Despite being the buzzword lately within the start-up ecosystem, founders of several deep-tech start-ups imply that early-stage generalist venture capital funds in India have been reluctant to invest in deep-tech. They point to general risk averseness, absence of patient capital and a lack of investors from science or research backgrounds in the VC community as some of the reasons. Meanwhile the investors tell a story of deeptech founders struggling to figure out a business model for the technology they develop. Oops !!! I have heard many only talk about Deep Tech, and how every conversation becomes one about the same topic. Popular belief is that this is the only area which offers best possible ROI, and almost save the world, in certain cases. 😜 This article seems to refer quite a different story !!! I feel the same about climate tech, and this over enthusiasm about the subject. To my understanding, impact should be a variable in consideration of assessing investment avenues.

Beatoven.ai and NeuroPixel.AI are two companies that inspired me to build a Deep tech startup. I highly lookup to these founders who are doing a magnificent stride with extraordinary constraints. Here is an interesting take on the Indian VC investments in Deep tech from Mansoor Rahimat Khan, the cofounder of Beatoven.ai for those who are interested!
