Great article from the The Baltimore Banner about health care interventions that are addressing the root causes of hardship. Congrats Lucas Carlson, MD, MPH on spearheading this important work!
Great article in the Baltimore Banner on our ED Multi-Visit Patient (MVP) program - incredibly proud of our team here at MedStar Health and the work they are doing to support and meet the needs of our patients outside the four walls of the hospital https://lnkd.in/eJUMpFe2
Some people go to the ER again and again. Maryland hospitals are helping them stop.

Length of stay is one of the most important metrics for health systems to prioritize. It represents the level of clinical care we’re providing to our patients and can cut overall costs when managed appropriately. My priority as Chief Clinical Officer at @Banner Health is to ensure that patients get the care they need and are discharged at an appropriate time. Read this HealthLeaders Media article I was featured in to learn some primary strategies to reduce length of stay: https://lnkd.in/eUTVuQ4x

This recent AJMC - The American Journal of Managed Care study shows perceptions of in-home urgent care through community paramedicine is not only effective (better quality), but also highly preferred site of care by patients. Meeting people where they are is what we do at QuikMedic | Mobile Urgent Care, and this article is a a great affirmation of "our why"! https://lnkd.in/ea5VBFD2

Thrilled to share our latest research publication in Emergency Medicine Australasia on end-of-life care in Emergency Departments! I had the privilege of designing and coordinating data collection for this study, which delves into critical aspects of end-of-life patient care and the challenges ED clinicians face in recognising end-of-life presentations. Our findings recommend system-based strategies for timely symptom management, end-of-life pathway implementation and care continuity. Is your community focusing on preventing Short-Stay readmissions? Check out this ECRI article for information and recommendations to prevent your Short-Stay readmissions and increase resident safety in your community. Although research has mainly focused on transitions from hospital to home or #skillednursingfacility -#nursingfacility, a few studies have highlighted the need for increased attention on #shortstaypatients. Compared with long-term residents, short-stay patients generally have higher acuity and are often recuperating from a hospital stay for an acute condition, such as a stroke or procedure. Despite their higher acuity, they also tend to need more use of clinical equipment, ancillary postacute or subacute services, and care coordination with specialty providers, possibly including transportation. Thus, short-stay patients may need closer monitoring, quicker recognition of problems, and earlier intervention to avoid hospital readmissions or emergency department visits. #residentsafety #patientsafety #safercommunities #seniorlivingcommunity

Paramedics in Ontario have been utilizing this technology for years! 🙌 We can only improve our CPR [& patient outcomes] when we are aware of our efficacy with qualitative, real-time data (rate, depth, recoil, etc). An awesome study at St. Mikes! 👏🏼👏🏼 #CPR #emergency #ER #healthcare #healthcareontario #paramedic
A team of clinicians in the St. Michael's Hospital Emergency Department is collecting data to identify ways to improve outcomes for patients who need CPR. Study co-lead Dr. Garrick Mok, Deputy Chief of the department, hopes that by analyzing real-time data about CPR he and his team will be able to make meaningful changes to the way it is delivered. “This will help us drive change to improve care for our patients," said Mok. "The old adage ‘you can’t improve what you don’t measure’ is very true in these cases.” https://bit.ly/3FvpaRi
