Good Morning friends, My 2nd business when I was 10 year old is manufacturer and sell of kites & manjha. Raw materials : - Bamboo and Gum from forest (Free). Burned tube light and bulb from garbage bin (Free). Paper and colour from stationery shop. Atta available at home. Problems faced :- while cutting bamboo cuts on hand. While grinding tube light and bulb get hurt on face and body. While putting mix of glass, gum & colour on thread chances to get cut on hand if all glasses are not grinded properly. Very important is Competition with other senior who use to make better quality of kite. Solutuon found :- Use to travel to Chandrapur purchase factory made kites of different varieties and types and sell more at minimal profit and captured market. You may have heard the story that - These pants/shirts are only worth ৳240 in the Gulistan market and they are selling it ৳3,499 damn. but..... still, you will see these companies are way much more successful than these Gulistan shops. Why? I know we all might smile and say what is so complex about this? They have place rent, lighting, employee cost, AC, etc more. But the real thing is they have tried to create a BRAND - out of this rather than selling it to anyone at a cheap rate. I'm not saying the cloth quality is the same but they are similar. They have made their outlets a big happening place for entertainment. So when people are craving them over the Gulistan shop - only because they want these brands logos and the time of shopping. As Marketers - When we can create these aspirational values of our products only then we can drive enough profit and sustain. WHAT OUR ARTISANS ARE UP AGAINST Here is a little under 3 minutes video which highlights the organized handicrafts infrastructure in place in China. If left unchecked, it is geared towards taking over the entire handicrafts industry of the World ! They copy Turkish lamps, european tables, African elephants , Red Indian scarves, British mementoes and Indian idols in state sponsored factories. Spread over acres with full scale subsidies and trade tariffs, these behemoths are engineered to ensure that Chinese artisans make mincemeat of artisans across the world! Reasons abound. Might of the state. Poverty. Rising materialism. Rising divide between the urban and the poor. I can go on .. But above all the only reason why the dragon breathes fire is that we don't Care for our artisans. We showed the way last Diwali. Time to shoo the dragon away this Diwali too.. However, with the introduction of plastic furniture and a scarcity of raw materials, Farrukhnagar's muddhe are losing their allure. Farrukhnagar is becoming increasingly urbanised. The local artisans are concerned about the extinction of the muddha-making craft in coming years. Once a centre for artisans, youth are abandoning the age-old trade of producing muddhas because they don't see a secure future or room for growth in it.
