Do you make a mental note to document your activities when you travel? What if this throwback post helps you put your next journey or staycation into perspective? This post would have skipped my mind, it's been 366 days since my last visit home. But thanks to a new connection who made this possible for me to recall as we discussed a mutual activity recorded in the past year; preceding my current job function and role. From it, I derived these pointers you might find helpful starting out in the development space: - Get involved through volunteering, advocating for change, or initiating community projects. Taking action to address pressing issues back home or in your community; a community does not equate to a rural area alone. - Then seek collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including educational institutions, government agencies, businesses, and media outlets to amplify your impact. - Master the art of communication in writing, public speaking and visual presentation. It's called an art because as you do, it gets better. - Lastly, remember the importance of documenting little efforts, this is because we never know who might just stumble upon your work or story and be inspired to join you; even better, get you on board with theirs. In all, I am reminded of the transformative power of youth leadership with corresponding action. Remember, each of us has the power to make a difference. Kindly emulate these proactive approaches through your contribution to positive change. Look forward to my next visit to Rivers State, and also to capturing some of my activities which might beat your imagination. - Abiye

The reason behind homelessness varies. Each individual has a unique story known only to them. The question is, "Are we willing to listen?". Homelessness can come from social, economic, health, and many other reasons. People lose their income, make an income that doesn't match the cost of living, suffer losses, escape violence, have mental health barriers, follow their jobs to a different location, lose their homes, and the list goes on. In times like these, people look to survive. As a community, we can help bring awareness and make moves to improve systems and policies. Our homes are a place of security, and advocacy for our unhoused neighbors is advocacy for everyone. Homelessness knows no boundaries and affects people of all backgrounds. 🏡 At Brilliant Corners, we partner with government, healthcare, service providers, landlords, and developers to create supportive housing for our most vulnerable populations and provide housing services to help them continue living stably. In addition, we engage in policy and advocacy initiatives to increase funding for supportive housing. 🏡 #partnership #brilliantcorners #helpingthehomeless #kindnessmatters #buildingthefuture #bethechange #helpingotherssucceed #housingsector #nonprofit #hiring #nonprofitjobs #housingservices #homelessservices #homelessnessawareness #supportiveservices #housingfirst

In today’s world, raising our standard of giving is more crucial than ever. It’s not just about the act of giving itself but about the thought, intention, and impact behind it. When we give thoughtfully and intentionally, aligning our contributions with our core values and passions, we create a ripple effect that extends far beyond the immediate moment. Investing time in understanding the needs and preferences of those we support and tailoring our efforts accordingly can transform lives in meaningful ways. By focusing on impact and striving to address root causes rather than symptoms, we can contribute to sustainable, long-term change. Moreover, raising our standard of giving means embracing consistency and collaboration. Making generosity a regular habit and working together with others amplifies our collective impact. Sharing our time, expertise, and resources not only benefits recipients but also enriches our own lives, fostering deeper connections and a greater sense of purpose. Let’s challenge ourselves to elevate the quality and thoughtfulness of our giving, making each act a step towards creating a more compassionate and equitable world. Together, we can make a profound difference. ❤️💡

Just stumbled upon this profound quote by Anita Roddick: ‘Once you think that you are too small to make an impact, try going to bed with a mosquito in the room.’ It’s a powerful reminder that even the tiniest actions can create significant waves of change. We might feel small in the grand scheme, but just like that persistent mosquito, our efforts can be remarkably impactful. Let’s embrace the idea that every small action matters – whether it’s in our work, relationships, or community involvement. Here’s to making a meaningful difference, one ‘mosquito’ moment at a time. #Impact #MakeADifference #AnitaRoddickQuote
