Through my internship with the Grants Program team this summer, I gained valuable insights into a wide range of ocean solutions addressing critical issues and had the privilege to support passionate young ocean leaders. This experience not only expanded my understanding of the ocean sector but also helped me align my career path with the important work being done in the #climatesector
As summer begins to wind down, Sustainable Ocean Alliance is celebrating the incredible young #oceanprofessionals that supported our programs this summer as interns! 🌊 In Partnership with Elemental Excelerator, Clean Energy Leadership Institute, and FutureMap’s Empowering Diverse Climate Talent #EDICT Internship Program, SOA was honored to have Ela Gokcigdem and Rosalyn Kamp join the #DreamTeam this summer to support SOA's Grants Program and our new #EcopreneurNetwork. From executing #grants for grassroots organizers to supporting founders in their #startup journey, Ela and Rosalyn contributed invaluably to SOA's mission while deepening their own individual understanding of the ocean-climate sector. By empowering diverse talent to grow within the #climatesector, we are able to create a more inclusive and thriving professional environment for all. 🚀 Reflecting on a Phenomenal Session: "FairRoot - The Past, Present, and Future" Recently, I had the privilege of attending an insightful session under IT-Palaver featuring Florian Uhlig. As someone working with FAIR Germany and working on the CBM experiment, this talk was not just educational but truly inspiring. Florian took us through a deep dive into FairRoot, discussing its evolution, current achievements, and the exciting roadmap ahead. The integration of cutting-edge technology and collaborative efforts in scientific research were highlighted, painting a vivid picture of what the future holds. This session not only reinforced my knowledge but also broadened my perspective on how collaborative platforms like FairRoot can drive significant advancements in research. It's exhilarating to be part of a project that started before I was even born, and to contribute to a legacy of ongoing scientific innovation. A big thank you to Florian Uhlig for the enriching talk and to FAIR Germany for organizing this. It's sessions like these that energize young researchers and interns like myself to contribute more fervently towards our projects. Looking forward to more such learning opportunities! #FairRoot #Research #Internship #FAIRGermany #CBMExperiment #ScientificResearch #FutureOfResearch #Learning

BLURRED IS: DRIVEN “Our internships are designed to encourage and support people from all backgrounds, and as part of our programme we have partnerships with Joined Up Thinking (a NEETS charity) and Morpeth School in Tower Hamlets. We have limited permanent junior positions, but want to ensure that our internships still act as bridge to work, so when they come to a close, every individual is enrolled in our alumni group. Benefits include access to our on-going bi-weekly training ‘fireside chats’ - even if they’ve gone to a competitor! - as well as time with me to help work on their CV/ job applications and plan next steps. Personally, I love watching people blossom and grow in confidence!” – Jenny Pape, Head of Talent “Learning and development is core to us at Blurred – in fact, over the course of the last year, each person on the team received an average of £3,000 worth of training. Everyone takes part in ‘AcadeMe’ - our customisable learning & development programme, which allows people to lean into different areas of interest or skill and learn in a way that works for them. It means I’m able to develop my ESGP knowledge through training and resources while being in the Finance team!” – Shaneeta Malik, Finance Manager “In the spring we launched one of our first pieces of original IP – ‘Closing the Gap’ – an innovative approach to assessing the integration of ESG and Purpose. Our methodology has given leadership an opportunity to see where purpose lacks substance and how ESG works with purpose to create meaningful change. At Blurred, we are driven to go beyond surface-level to provide our clients with an evidence-based approach, actionable insights, and most importantly impactful results.” – Veronica Patton-Cemm, Consulting Director #BlurredisFive #ESGP #Purpose #ConsultingMeetsCreative

During my first year of college, I got rejected for USIP, an initiative by my college where students get the opportunity to do paid internships under various departments of the college. It was a moment of huge disappointment for me and one of my friends Tariq Anwar since all of our friends were shortlisted except us two. Exactly a year after that incident, the college alloted me with a USIP intern for my startup. It felt totally game-changing to see how the tables turned. From being someone who was seeking an opportunity but got rejected to someone who is now a part of this opportunity-providing initiative, I learned a lot. The same thing happened with Tariq as well. Coming back to the present day, in my third year of college, I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of USIP interns (obviously provided by college) working in my startup. So, in these few years there have been a lot of learnings and takeaways: ➡️Keep doing what you're doing consistently I've seen people giving their best to something they really want to do and then giving up because they don't see the results. Had I given up in my first year of college itself, I wouldn't be in a position to write this stuff out today. ➡️No one cares until you win If you want to make people believe in you, you have to first prove yourself. Without any strong evidence of success and achievement, no one is going to listen to you. Hit a milestone, have an achievement to show, and then people will themselves come and ask how you did it. ➡️Stay away from distractions At this point when you're in college, getting to know new people and having new experiences, all it comes with a lot of distractions that are enough to deviate you from your ultimate goal. So, focusing on what you're doing is absolutely important no matter whatever situation arises. These are a few reasons why I have been able to turn the tables around and stand apart from the crowd. Keep learning. Keep growing.🌻 #startup #internship #college #entrepreneur #rejection #success
