Dominique Ahumada’s Post

Proud (and lucky) wife post 🚀 🎾 ⛳

One of my go-to interview questions was to ask a candidate if they consider themselves lucky. It was fascinating to observe how different personalities interpreted this question and the unique responses it provoked. To answer my own question, I am the "luckiest" in regard to my family and sports. Those two elements are fully intertwined in where I am today. And it’s curious to reflect upon a time when a “small decision” actually ended up being quite major and wonder whether there was luck involved. I decided to focus exclusively on soccer when I was about 14. I did everything possible to excel and stay focused. And "lucky" me, I got to play at the collegiate level. In college I had a life changing moments when I decided to transfer universities my freshman year (from IU to Duke). This all happened rather quickly during Christmas break when I happened to be in golf lore, Pinehurst, NC visiting my Nana and Poppop. But once again, as "luck" would have it, Duke was an hour drive away. I was lucky in that my grandparents also taught me how to play golf and tennis at an early age. Nana was repeat club champion and Poppop could more than hold his own while beaming with pride for his bride’s success. Golf has provided such a meaningful respite and served as a source of new lifelong friendships for me, especially over the past few years. Soccer and my grandparents brought me to Duke, and Duke brought me to Dominique Ahumada, my wife. I am lucky to be married to the most amazing woman. She is my best friend, my confidant, and my love. The fact that we are blessed with three healthy and happy minis, is simply the cherry on top.  If you’re lucky to have it, being a dad is the hardest, most grueling, humbling and best job ever. Helping Sebastian, Jade and Cruz as they navigate life, find their own voice, and develop confidence is a job I take very seriously. As I embark upon my entrepreneurship journey I feel so confident centering myself with my two core elements of family + sports. With the support of Dom and the kids, we’re launching our kids apparel brand, Physical Education. The first collection debuts this summer with golf and tennis attire in memory of my Nana and Poppop. Our entire family has been deeply involved, carefully considering all colors, silhouettes, fabrics and branding. Each of the kids have tried on countless samples and given incredibly insightful feedback and suggestions, especially since this effort aims to put kids first! Our brand is called Physical Education because we believe sports have the potential to shape, change and impact the lives of our youth in amazingly powerful ways. It certainly did for me! I have never felt more energized, inspired and driven. We can’t wait to show you what we’re all about and would love for you to follow along at physed.co or @physed.co in IG. Who knows where this journey will take us, but what I do know is that I’m betting us on making a little luck along the way.
