Bad Interviews are a warning sign of Toxic Workplaces. 9 Interview red flags to look out for: Fantastic cheat sheet by my friend Rob Dance 🔥 Learn to identify the biggest red flags To avoid landing a nightmare role. Look out for these key signs during your next interview: 1. "We're like a family". ↳ Family culture is a sign that employers are willing to violate boundaries. ↳ They are more likely to disregard feelings and effort at work. ↳ The best culture is driven by performance and balance. 2. Five rounds of multi-hour interviews and assessments ↳ A long interview process shows they are not prepared to be interviewing. ↳ As well as poor time management and structure in the workplace. ↳ Avoid employers that do not value your time and effort. 3. Bait and switch ↳ If the job you interview for doesn't match what you applied for, take note. ↳ They might be trying to trick you into a salary lower than advertised. ↳ Or might be desperate to bring in new staff. (or both) 4. Lack of Clarity About Job Expectations ↳ If they can't explain the job’s responsibilities, structure or goals, avoid them. ↳ It's a strong sign that internally the company is disorganised and sloppy. ↳ Or worse they could be using your interview to figure these things out. 5. Future promises ↳ Future promotions or pay raises mean nothing unless they are written down. ↳ Ensure any promises made are SMART and included in the contract. ↳ Don't regret accepting an offer when promises are broken. 6. Salary range is 30k - 150k or 'Competitive' ↳ A competitive salary or a huge range is a sign they're not willing to pay fairly. ↳ Or they are not sure how to value the job requirements listed. ↳ The best roles show the salary in the job description. 7. Looking for someone to hit the ground running ↳ Whilst this might seem fair, there can be some underlying issues. ↳ It can be a sign that the team is short-staffed and desperate. ↳ You may struggle to receive onboarding support. 8. Benefits are which are Non-Benefits ↳ Casual Fridays, free parking and 25 days annual leave are common practices. ↳ Look for benefits that will genuinely change your life. ↳ If free tea and coffee are listed as a benefit. RUN! 9. The interview is too short ↳ A 20-minute interview could mean they're desperate to fill the position. ↳ Or they undervalue the importance of ensuring a good fit for you and them. ↳ The most effective Interviews are often 1-2 hours long. Spot the early signs today And save yourself from a future: - Pain - Frustration - Disappointment Have you experienced any of these red flags before? The bait and switch is the worst, especially when it comes to whether we're expected to be always on.

#4 I totally AGREE on the importance of clarity about job expectations! If a company can't clearly explain the role's responsibilities and goals, it’s a major red flag. It often indicates internal disorganization, and you might end up in a chaotic work environment. Thanks for sharing, Chris Donnelly!

Spot on with these red flags! #1 about "family culture" is an interesting one. Healthy work-life balance is important, but overstepping boundaries can be a problem.

I love how you opened it all up. Better to keep searching for a good job than joining a toxic company. It's not worth your mental health.
