Turning healthy data into value. I help healthcare organizations bring together information that matters with InterSystems technology. Got data, need value? Send me a message.

A really interesting takeaway from this panel discussion was whether Generative AI can get rid of summarization in patient notes. If you think about it, every physician is really trying to get the essential facts from the previous summary note. There’s an opportunity for Generative AI to assist the physician to write this more efficiently. The physician puts in the essential facts and the AI model builds out the rest of the summary note. And then, when the next physician looks at the note, they could use Generative AI to distill the summary note into those essential facts that are most important. So this begged the question: do we really need this summarization? Or should physicians just be able to put in the essential facts and the decision process? We all concluded we couldn’t get rid of summarization any time soon. But these AI tools might eventually change the physician workflow – and save a lot of time. A great example of how GenAI will change healthcare! Thank you to my fellow panelists Dr. Keith J. Dreyer ,Sonya Makhni, MD, MBA, MS, and Yaa Kumah-Crystal, MD MPH FAMIA for a great discussion at HIMSS ’24. #HIMSS24 #GenAI
