LinkedIn and Not for profit Fundraising My taxi ride back from the Ashoka India office to the airport in Banglore with Sonal Kapoor, pro-level in personal and organizational branding on LinkedIn, left me with an interesting insight. She shared a statistic that less than 2% of LinkedIn users actively contribute content. This figure lingered in my mind, which means that the other 98% only consume the content created by the 2%. By extension -simply showing up consistently, LinkedIn can become the most powerful engine of connections for not-for-profits. LinkedIn, often perceived merely as a professional networking site, has a deeper storytelling and connection capacity. This is evident in some of the high-quality content that's being put out there. This can be a powerful tool for non-profits often looking for an opportunity to present their work to funders and donors who matter. Not-for-profits often grapple with visibility and engagement, yet here was a resource, underutilized and with amazing potential. The key lies in consistency and authenticity. (Pls remember -No Virtue signalling and no poverty pandering. Again a topic of whole different post) By regularly sharing stories, insights, and experiences that resonate with us personally, we inadvertently align ourselves with LinkedIn’s algorithm, which, in turn, connects us to those who find value in our narratives. The beauty of this approach is its simplicity yet profound impact. It's not about crafting the perfect post or reaching viral status. It's about the discipline of showing up (note to self) Who should be the spokespersons for our organisation, you ask? Well, that's a topic for another whole different post. :) Avantika Jain Anisha Abhishek Goel (He/Him) #NonprofitFundraising #SocialGood #CharityTuesday #NonprofitMarketing #FundraisingIdeas #GiveBack #Philanthropy #MakeADifference #SupportNonprofits #CharityEvent #corporatesocialresponsibility #csrindia

Executive Director at Teach For India US | Non profit Organizational Strategy and Development, Education Management
Teach For India U.S. is participating in #indiagivingday for the second year in a row! To me, the best philanthropic leadership examples are those that contribute where the need is the most, and where the contribution has a significant impact. Over 300 million children are in India's school system, and almost 3/4th of them are not making it to college... the need now has been higher than ever for us to direct our attention and contributions to transform the Indian education system. This is what we are trying to achieve from our participation in the #IndiaGivingDay campaign - increasing the culture of giving to India in America! Your contribution made to Teach For India during this campaign in the next two days, will transform the lives of over 34,000 children in India by providing them an excellent education. Click the link below and be a part of this pioneering initiative! https://lnkd.in/ed9rVDg5 #TeachForIndia #MakeItPossible #EducationalEquity #ExcellentEducation

The latest EdelGive Hurun India Philanthropy List for 2023 was published on November 2. It tells us who the most generous & philanthropic business individuals in India are. According to Forbes India, the person at the very top is Shiv Nadar, Co-Founder of HCL, an IT giant. He donated about Rs 2,042 crore, in the year 2023. That's like giving away Rs 5.6 crore every single day! He likes to donate money to genres like education, art, and culture. The second most generous person on the list is Azim Premji, Founder of Wipro. He donated Rs 1,774 crore. What's interesting is that this list also shows people who gave money from their own pocket, not from their companies. This is special because, in India, companies are supposed to give some of their money to social causes as a part of CSR. This year, 119 people on the list together gave Rs 8,445 crore in the year 2023. That's a lot more than last year, 59% more. And compared to three years ago, it's a big increase – 200% more! There are 24 other people on the list this year and the top 10 include Shiv Nadar, Azim Premji, Nandan Nilekani who helped create Infosys, Rohini Nilekani, Nithin and Nikhil Kamath who started Zerodha, Subroto Bagchi who co-founded Mindtree with his spouse Susmita, and AM Naik who is the Chairman of Larsen & Toubro. #startuppedia #hcl #shivnadar #philanthropist #donations #itcompany #itindustry

Embarking on my volunteer journey with Ashwini Charitable Trust , I discovered a world where passion meets purpose. In the challenging environment of Bengaluru's slums, I met Anbu (name changed), a young boy whose eye were filled with dreams and whose talent in drawing was as vivid as his imagination. A Talent Unveiled: Anbu's world was transformed through sketches and colors; his drawings were brilliant. However, his talent remained a hidden treasure, unseen by the world. As a volunteer, my mission became clear: to nurture this budding artist and give his dreams the wings they deserved. I brought Anbu to ACT where our sessions transcended traditional education because Anbu could give a free reign to his imagination and expressed himself freely. Witnessing his confidence bloom through art was a testament to the transformative power of mentorship and belief. Anbu’s journey was more than personal growth; it became a source of inspiration for the community. His art showcased the beauty in everyday life. This ripple effect underscored the impact of fostering individual talents. With ACT's resources and encouragement, Anbu’s talent bloomed. The paintings made by him and other ACT kids are featured on the gratitude cards we sent to our donors. We have also used these pieces of art for circulars and brochures that are used for our own internal communication. If you are moved by the transformation that volunteering can bring and wish to be part of empowering journeys like Anbu’s, ACT invites you to join our family of change-makers. #volunteerwithact #unlockpotential #arttransforms #empowerthroughart #actjourney #makedifference #nurturetalent #brighterfutures #changemakers #educationforall #creativelearning #inspirechange #communityimpact #youthempowerment #dreambig

At Rohini Nilekani Philanthropies, we believe gatherings can be transformative experiences that foster deep connections and collective purpose. Our recent #ActiveCitizenship gathering aimed to embody this. From spot-fixing in Bangalore to a memorable train ride filled with chai and charged discussions topped off with an interactive workshop in Mangalore, we strived to create a space for meaningful dialogue and genuine bonds. A few principles that guide our approach: 🧭 Clarity of intention: Every gathering needs a clear "why" before getting into the "how". 🌈 Diversity in all forms: We embrace diversity in participants, thoughts, formats, and locations to enrich the experience. 🎨 Cultural resonance: We weave in local art/music/culture to create an authentic, engaging experience. 🌱 Holding space for emergence: We set the stage but leave room for organic development and self-organisation. 🙏 Honoring the whole individual: We engage the mind, heart, body and spirit through varied activities and spaces. 😊 Being an act of love: Above all, we see gatherings as an expression of love for the attendees, the ideas shared, and the community we serve. Our gatherings will always be a work in progress. But we're committed to curating experiences that spark meaningful connections and possibilities. It is so much fun to do this alongside a team that holds gatherings as an art and science: Natasha Joshi Sahana Jose #TransformativeGatherings #HumanCenteredConvenings #ActiveCitizenship

In the nonprofit sector, grappling with funding disparities remains a shared challenge, impeding the ability to achieve significant and comprehensive impact. The issue is not just about where the money goes, like favoring big cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, but also about certain causes/focus areas getting more attention than others. This unbalanced focus means we might be missing out on the whole plot of driving holistic impact everywhere it's needed. Also, well-known organizations often get a lot more funding, which only adds to the inequity in the funding landscape. Thanks Nandita Venkatesan and Tanay Sukumar from LiveMint for spotlighting this! #fundingforimpact #fundingdisparity #strategicphilanthropy #holisticfunding #strategicfunding
