Equity in STEMM requires a comprehensive strategy, one that includes a deep dive into the sometimes hidden equity issues embedded in the creation and use of clinical algorithms. Proud to have the Racial Equity in Clinical Equations initiative recognized by The White House as part of the STEMM Opportunity Alliance ecosystem that will drive change: https://lnkd.in/dNCY2MX6 #EquityinEquations

Chairman, Division of Population Health & Integrated Care, Singapore General Hospital | Passionate Healthcare transformer, Population health researcher. Talks about #healthierSG, #hsg, #population health, and leadership
Cannot agree more with you Nick Sevdalis, PhD. Very often, these groups are also left out of RCTs with strict inclusion and exclusion criteria or studies who find it challenging to recruit these patients from ethnic minorities or low digital literacy. Should our research funders have separate grant calls focusing on disadvantaged groups to improve their health outcomes? This can be more deliberate from policy makers to improve equity and inclusion, and not left to researchers or reviewers to submit proposals grounds up. Population health is the distribution of health outcomes of a defined population. Just like the health system would risk stratify to focus interventions on these high risk groups, perhaps it is time for research funders to consider doing the same! What do you all think? #populationhealth #hsg
'One important stakeholder is the “seldom heard” – the people whose voices never make it to the table, such as minorities, people with low digital literacy, or those from lower income backgrounds. We need to prioritize these communities so that interventions reach everybody. This is one of the big challenges in the coming years.' Founder: ”Why should women go into STEM?” Me: “Here is an example of why that will scare you…” Clinical trials are how we develop medicine that we know works on humans. → We develop the compound. → We see its effects in multiple ways. → We test its effects on humans before it goes public. Simple right? … Wrong! It wasn’t until 1993 when the FDA’s 1977 guidelines were reversed and the inclusion of women in clinical trials became part of Federal law. That means that before 1993 all clinical trials were based on men. Men who have different physiological make-ups. Men who react differently to compounds. Men who can’t represent some. But the reason we need women in STEM is more than just clinical trials. It’s about representing at the highest level. And allowing women all over the world to be included because of it.

On top of Dr. Mollie McQuillan's many accomplishments this year, she was also selected for the 2023-24 cohort of the Scholars Strategy Network’s Health Equity Scholars Program. This year-long national program is aimed at helping scholars effectively share health equity research with policymakers. OPRE and Mathematica's "Next Steps for Rigorous Research on Two-Generation Approaches" project is one of the largest federal research investments in the two-generation (2Gen) approach. We sat down with 3 of the 10 participating organizations - Brighton Center, Center for Transforming Lives, and Valley Settlement - to learn what results they’ve seen and to gather their insights and recommendations for other organizations as they progress on their #2Gen measurement and evaluation journeys: https://lnkd.in/esntf3zf #AscendNetwork #NS2G #Research #Evaluation #Measurement

This is it! Our No. 1 most popular post on LinkedIn of the year, from way back in February, when we news shared from our School of Medicine Student Senate that the Gender Equity in Medicine Taskforce, founded by #WarriorMD Mirna K., worked with TiScrubs to secure scrub hijabs for our medical students. These one-piece hijabs are waterproof and have stethoscope holes, modeled here by M4 Zoha. #top10

Incredible few days in DC at the Society for Prevention Research annual with some of the National Race Equity Implementation Center (NREIC). Big thanks to Lisa C. Gary, Ph.D., Leon Aragon LCSW, Tracy Anderson, Ph.D, and Cindy Myers, LCSW for their immense effort and willingness to travel from near and far to spread the word. Thanks also to those that attended our sessions! . Some of our unwavering truths: . Investments in research that drive research agendas aren't aligned with community priorities. . Culture, race, identity, and community context are all evidence and people are the experts of their own experiences. . Implementation Science isn't just about the translation of research into practice, it must also be the translation of community and their priorities into research. . It's not enough to measure disparities, NREIC has the roadmap and concrete strategies to close race/equity gaps. . Listen to residents, do exactly what they tell you to do. Engaging people with "lived experience" and then not acting on their expertise is tokenism. . Evidence based prevention/treatment must be relevant and engaging to participants. If it isn't, its our fault that families don't engage, not theirs, stop blaming families for bad program. . We've got a lot of work going on that we'll be sharing with you momentarily, stay close! #implementationscience #impsci #raceequity #evidence #evidencebased #implementation #academicevidence #community #communityexpertise
