Managed to finish my first triathlon in 9 years today! 🏊♂️ 🚴 🏃 I made a snap decision at the end of April that this was as good a year as any to see if I could still do it, and am pretty pumped I managed to finish in 3 hours, actually 3rd in my age group! The day started at 615am, race meeting at 725am, then an hour or so delay for thunder and lightning storms ⛈️ Thankfully it all cleared up enough to get rolling at 9am. Naturally I didn’t have time to get a wet-suit, but water temperature wasn’t too bad in the Muskoka River (I think I was the only person without a wet-suit mind-you 😂). Bike was pretty tough and hilly, but packed some snacks and gells in the jersey to keep going. Run was pretty brutal at the start, but got into a rhythm and had a few folks around to pace with. Turned out one came 2nd place in my age group (he managed to get 30 seconds ahead of me at the end 😅). End of the day really happy to get back out, and back into an awesome sport (and off my computer)!
That's a huge accomplishment - placing 3rd in your age group is quite the feat even without a 9 year competition break! Way to go! 🏋♂️
