It's Pride Month. 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ We're looking forward to a month of celebration, conversation, and learning organized by our employee-led Pride+ affinity group, to increase awareness of LGBTQIA+ history, identity and community. 🌈 This year our internal theme is 'Empowerment through visibility' and we’ve made the decision to change our logo to the Pride Progress flag. Here's why 👇 Whether it's legislative threats to transgender rights in the UK and the US, the increase in hate speech globally, or recent tragic events like the hate-driven homicide of 3 lesbians in Buenos Aires, it's evident that the fight for equality persists. By prominently featuring the Pride flag colors, we stand with every member of the LGBTQ+ community, advocate for their rights, and celebrate their diversity. 👉 Pride+ is just one of the incredible affinity groups we have at Kin + Carta, who work tirelessly to help promote a safe environment for everyone to be themselves. Learn more: https://okt.to/e5A0g3 Their work continues to feed into our culture that values the diversity and inclusion of all our employees.💜 #ForEveryone #PrideMonth #DiversityAndInclusion

In honor of #pridemonth, I'd like to share 2 things I've learned recently that are important in the LGBTQIA+ community: ❌ "Preferred pronouns" ✅ "Personal pronouns" or "Chosen pronouns" Using the terminology 'preferred' implies that there is an option to use pronouns for an individual other than the ones that align with that person's identity. However, to meet the basic human needs of feeling safe in an environment, using 'personal' or 'chosen' acknowledges that person's decision to select pronouns that they identify with. ❌ "Name" ✅ "Chosen name" Indicating a person's chosen name affirms their gender identity and fosters safety and trust. Using a name assigned at birth or 'deadname' can reject that person's identity and lead to mistrust. This Bisexual Awareness Week, we’re centering our bi+ community of bisexual, pansexual, queer, omnisexual, fluid friends, and everyone in between 🩷💜💙 We know that Bi+ identities are increasingly misunderstood and stigmatized within and outside of the LGBTQ community. As a result, our research shows that Bi+ young people disproportionately face mental health challenges in comparison to lesbian and gay youth. That’s why it’s more important than ever to center Bi+ identities through visibility, representation, and intersectional storytelling. Because bisexual folks exist everywhere––and belong everywhere––now and always. We want every Bi+ young person to know that your identity is seen and heard. You are more than valid––you are celebrated. You are more than included––you belong. We are alongside you every step of the way as you navigate identity, shift stigmas, and create a more inclusive world. This week and every week, your identity matters. Remember, we are always are here 24/7, free & confidential, to support you through anything and everything. There are more lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, and other sexual and gender diverse (LGBTQI+) people in the United States than ever before, yet there remain widespread and significant gaps in data collection on the well-being of these populations. Our 2020 report provides guidance on how to understand well-being — including access to healthcare, economic stability, and education — and close existing data gaps to better understand and address the needs of sexual and gender diverse populations.
