The roadmap, titled “Roadmap for Electricity Access as a Development Driver in the Legal Amazon,” goes beyond mere electrification, focusing on its integration with broader policies and sectors to drive sustainable local development. Brazil's Luz para Todos (LpT) program laid a crucial foundation and connected millions of rural Brazilians to the grid, but challenges persist in achieving universal access of adequate quality. Issues such as centralized planning, hindrances to microgrid development, and the unique characteristics of remote communities demand innovative solutions. The roadmap identifies these challenges and proposes strategies like building local supply chains, adapting regulatory frameworks, and aligning with other policy objectives. A month has passed since the lightning resignation of António Costa and the Portuguese Socialist Party government. While accusations of formal corruption seem to have faded, it has become clear that the megaproject that was at the base of the resignati on, Sines 4.0, ia part of a group of sterile and opportunistic initiatives that hold back the energy transition and absorb renewable energy capacity to serve the interests of investment funds. If it came to fruition, Sines 4.0 would consume almost as much energy as that produced in all Portuguese dams in 2022, and much more than all the solar energy produced in the same year. https://lnkd.in/dEb8Bid9

🚨 Mega Deals Alert!! 🚨 🤝 Yesterday, Ørsted announced a new deal with Microsoft on the sale of 1 million tons of CDR over a 10-year period. 🤝 Carbonity has also announced a 3-year agreement with Microsoft on the sale of 36,000 biochar carbon removal credits. 🔝 This takes Microsoft's total purchases to 7.68 million tons of CDR, standing on top of the CDR.fyi Purchasers Leaderboard. 🥇 Orsted re-takes the top spot on the CDR.fyi Suppliers Leaderboard, with over 3.67 million tons of CDR sold so far. 📈 This is the 3rd largest Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS) deal in history. 📊 Carbonity, a joint venture project between Airex Energy, Gestion Rémabec Inc, and SUEZ, comes into the Suppliers Leaderboard, at 20th. 💼 Germany-based First Climate is Carbonity’s partner for the administration and marketing of carbon removal credits. 🔗 Read the full announcements in the comment below:

🚀 Embracing Challenges and Celebrating Milestones in Natural Gas Exports to Mexico 🇺🇸🇲🇽 As I reflect on my journey to develop a marketing and trading business for natural gas exports to Mexico on behalf of a large international bank, I am constantly reminded of the early struggles. However, deep down, I always knew that this success story would play out, and today, we are seeing incredible milestones that affirm this belief. 🔹 Historic Highs in 2024: According to a recent article in El Financiero, natural gas purchases by Mexico from the US have reached a historic high in 2024. This landmark achievement underscores the critical role of cross-border energy trade and the sustained demand for natural gas in Mexico. 🔹 Energy Reform Impact: The energy reforms established in Mexico in 2014 have been a game-changer, opening up the market to private and foreign investments. These reforms have created opportunities for significant infrastructure development and strengthened bilateral energy ties. 🔹 Infrastructure and Supply: The construction of key pipelines, such as the Trans-Pecos and Sur de Texas-Tuxpan, has been instrumental in boosting export capacity. These investments ensure a reliable supply of natural gas to meet Mexico's growing industrial and residential demand. 🔹 Economic Benefits: Both countries are reaping economic benefits from this trade. The US gains a stable market for its surplus natural gas, while Mexico benefits from a reliable and affordable energy source, fostering economic growth and energy security. 🔹 Continued Hurdles: Despite these successes, challenges remain. The lack of sufficient power, water, and infrastructure is a significant hurdle as more manufacturing businesses relocate to Mexico from the USA or abroad. Addressing these issues is crucial for supporting industrial growth and maintaining the momentum of natural gas exports. 🔹 Increased Competition and Volatility: This success story also brings heightened competition for natural gas molecules. On a macro level, and more importantly on a micro level, markets like California and the Desert Southwest are seeing validated volatility. End users, please pay close attention despite the low natural gas prices we are experiencing, as competition and market dynamics continue to evolve. 🔹 Future Outlook: As we look ahead, continued infrastructure development, technological advancements, and policy support will be essential. The focus on integrating renewable energy sources and adopting sustainable practices will further enhance the role of natural gas as a bridge fuel in the energy transition.

Infrastructure is the cornerstone for the deployment of green and renewable hydrogen in Europe. Lhyfe is very happy to see that the Commission has approved, under EU State aid rules, a third Important Project of Common European Interest (‘IPCEI') to support hydrogen infrastructure. The project, called “IPCEI Hy2Infra”, was jointly prepared and notified by seven Member States: #France , Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, and Slovakia. The Member States will provide up to €6.9 billion in public funding, which is expected to unlock €5.4 billion in private investments. As part of this #IPCEI, 32 companies with activities in one or more Member States, including small and medium-sized enterprises (‘SMEs'), will participate in 33 projects. #greenhydrogen #renewablehydrogen #energytransition #greendeal

Last week, I had the pleasure of attending Wind Europe 2024 in Bilbao, where I engaged in enlightening discussions among prominent industry professionals and regulatory authorities. The event showcased the latest advancements and emerging startups in the wind energy sector. It was a delightful opportunity to reconnect with old friends and create new connections within the industry. Key insights from the event include the imperative for Europe to synchronize the development of renewable energy sources and wind generation with grid infrastructure and the increasing demand for electricity resulting from industrial electrification, heating, and transportation. Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) are gaining traction, with a rising demand from small-scale purchasers seeking solutions to mitigate shape and volumetric risks. The pricing structure of PPAs is becoming more flexible, adapting to fluctuations in raw material prices and inflation, although cannibalization risks due to increased rates of curtailments from intermittent generation must be considered. Concerning permitting, communities are becoming increasingly organized, hiring consultants from major firms, which complicates and prolongs negotiations with landlords. It is becoming industry standard to engage with communities by presenting plans for their social development, including training courses, job creation, and infrastructure modernization. Denmark's pilot program for an optimized permitting process (https://lnkd.in/dAj9JKJ8) shows promise for implementation in other countries, although the monetization scheme is still in development. I wanted to share a very insightful blog which my esteemed colleagues and industry experts Carlos Paulino and Keith Shaw recently put together. In their blog, they highlight how #Lisbon is emerging as a pivotal #subsea cable hub due to its strategic location at the confluence of Europe, #Africa, the #Mediterranean Sea, and the Atlantic Ocean. In addition, they discuss how the support of the Portuguese government for new digital infrastructure projects has positioned Portugal as one of the few countries with direct subsea cable connectivity to every populated continent. Recent and upcoming cable systems landing in Lisbon, such as #Equiano and #2Africa, are aimed at stimulating digital growth in Africa. Additionally, Lisbon plays a crucial role in driving digital expansion in Latin America, with the #EllaLink cable system reducing latency and enhancing connectivity across continents. Everything is bigger in the United States 🇺🇸: It is well known that Europe is lagging behind in scale-up funding. 𝑩𝒖𝒕 𝒉𝒐𝒘 𝒃𝒊𝒈 𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒈𝒂𝒑 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒏 𝒕𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚?⬇ 🚀 Our analysis shows that the 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 by leaps and bounds in 2021. 👶 The funding volumes at the 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 & 𝐒𝐞𝐞𝐝 stage as well as the Early-Stage (Series A, B) in Europe are 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒓 𝒍𝒆𝒔𝒔 𝒐𝒏 𝒑𝒂𝒓 with the US. 🐉However, at the 𝐋𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐠𝐞, there is an immense gap between the continents: total equity funding at this stage is over 𝒇𝒊𝒗𝒆 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒆𝒓 (!) in the United States than in Europe. ↘In 2023, only Pre-Seed & Seed funding remained stable. Early- and Late-Stage funding declined significantly. In a difficult macro-environment, this is a 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡 for the scale-up of next generation Hydrogen technology . 🤝 Good to see that the German Federal Government has agreed to allocate 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 €𝟏.𝟕𝟓𝐛𝐧. 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭, which will leverage a further €1.75bn. in private funds. This is a big step in the right direction at the national level! 🌏 Still, we need more fire power for scale-up financing and more demand-side incentives coordinated at the European level to build the next generation of global hydrogen champions! You can read on the text below: Opportunities for investment in the #renewable energy sector in the state were discussed on Thursday (30) in a meeting of the Ceará government delegation at the Bank of China (Boci) in Beijing, China. The Chinese state financial institution is the main channel for external financing in the Asian country and is responsible for the international financing of projects by Chinese companies that are learning about the potential of Ceará in the renewable energy sector. The Ceará government delegation, consisting of Secretary Roseane Medeiros(International Relations), Secretary João Salmito Filho (Economic Development), and the President of the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém (CIPP), Hugo Figueirêdo, was received at the Bank of China by the Executive Director of Global Coverage Center, Dominic Wang; Private Equity Director, Calvin Yu; Managing Director and Head of the M&A Team, Zouqiu Foue; and executives Junxian Li (Private Equity) and Qibo Chen (M&A Team). During the visit, the government managers group presented the state's competitive advantages, its economic and fiscal situation, as well as the #infrastructure to receive projects and investments in various areas, especially in the #energy production chain. Additionally, they presented the Industrial and Port Complex of Pecém, with its Export Processing Zone (ZPE), and the Port of Pecém, with a modern and effective terminal and consolidated commercial lines. Thus, it is an extremely opportune moment for such a visit as the world is going through a transition in its energy matrix, and the state has the opportunity to show its potential, and its organization and envisions a possibility of the bank working together with the state of #Ceará. Delegation agenda: During the week, members of the Ceará government met with several Chinese companies, including Gansu TUS Green Technology Innovation, which signed a technical cooperation agreement with the delegation on Monday. There were also meetings with China Isotope & Radiation Corporation, CNNP, Higer Bus, and Power China, intending to discuss investments in renewable energy and solar parks. The delegation also met with Goldwind, a company that had already signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of Ceará. On Saturday, the delegation has a meeting scheduled with Mingyang Smart Energy to sign a memorandum of understanding for the creation of a wind turbine technology and repair center to serve the Brazilian wind industry. Mingyang Smart Energy representatives met with the governor on Thursday to discuss the matter.
