Guelph Police Service
Chief Cobey
Why is your service so inept at caring for its members?
How many more officers need to go off work with unprocessed or undiagnosed traumatic injuries before you act?
An overreaction is justifiable.
An underreaction is inexcusable.
*** This issue is not unique to the Guelph Police Service.***
However, after having worked there for 30 years, after witnessing the impact of that lack of care and leadership in this regard (mental wellbeing), I feel this is where I can best affect change now, and I see firsthand that it’s needed now.
Why do I believe it is needed?
Because I continue to speak to officers that are currently off work with Post Traumatic Stress Injuries, or who have recently retired from the Guelph Police Service, with that (lack of care) being a factor in their retirement decision. It was for me.
I do this while I continue to advocate for change on a broader scale, as I do recognize that there is a huge need for more education, more skills, and national training standards for our officers.
