What was it like to found an onshore wind development firm & develop an 8 GW pipeline in just a few years? Catherine McLean spoke with Kenneth Labeja, CFO & Co-Founder at Triple Oak Power, about this, Triple Oak’s recent acquisition by private equity fund ECP (Energy Capital Partners) & challenges in onshore wind development. Labeja also shared tips for building an inclusive & diverse workforce, & about his support of the Energy Scholars Mentorship Program, an initiative between Microsoft, Vestas, GridStor, LevelTen Energy, Energy GPS LLC & University of Washington Clean Energy Institute. This program is helping to address the energy sector’s opportunity gap by providing college students from underrepresented backgrounds with a fully-paid educational experience in cleantech. Thank you, American Clean Power Association (ACP), for hosting this episode recording at the Cleanpower PowerCasts stage! #Cleantechers – If you've worked in the U.S. clean energy industry, my most recent Scaling Clean guest will be familiar to you — and I'm not bashful about saying he's a great addition to the show. That's because George Hershman is one of the most prominent leaders in U.S. clean energy. He spent his career running SOLV Energy, formerly known as Swinerton Renewable Energy. He also recently served as the Chairman of the Solar Energy Industries Association. SOLV is a widely recognized EPC. It has built 8 GW of utility scale solar capacity and now manages over 9 GW across more than half the states in this country. If there is anyone who has collected a lifetime of leadership and management wisdom, it's George. Here are his B3P’s: 4:30 - You may be eager to take risks right off the bat, but it’s easier for a more mature company to take risks than it is for a new company. If you just started a business, be careful taking risks. Before starting a project, make sure you have the right people and a good understanding of your objectives first. 12:42 - Renewables have moved out of the era of policy dependence and niche markets. Renewables are now the lowest cost of energy and the fastest to deploy. It solves the biggest problems around energy distribution now that we have storage at scale. 23:29 - When interviewing new candidates, it’s important to determine how that person will make you feel comfortable and uncomfortable. When done the right way, people can be transparent and challenge your organization to be better. This is especially important for companies that have low turnover, who may have a narrowed point of view. Thank you, George, for coming on the show.

John Engel and I discuss all things Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and transmission development on this week’s “Factor This!” Podcast from Renewable Energy World. Curious how last week’s big rulings in Order No. 1977 and Order No. 1920 relate to the larger effort to expand and modernize the electric grid, or wondering what these rules mean for your energy business? We touch on both these questions and more in our chat. Listen at the link below or wherever you listen to podcasts. #FERC #energytransition #transmissiondevelopment #renewableenergy

Surprising to learn that businesses are often the ones being left behind or impacted as we build out utility scale renewable energy. In this episode we learn about how the variability brought about by renewables creates both risks and opportunity for energy security/resilience for businesses and how VECKTA are changing the ways these companies adapt to fast changing energy space to save money and utilise more renewable power
Founder/CEO of UNO Home Loans, the home for the next generation of high performing brokers. Great tech, digital first brand, complete back office and dedicated credit & performance coaching
This weeks Shape The System Podcast episode is all about business and energy. We interview VECKTA founder Gareth Evans about the risk and opportunity for medium to large businesses. With massive transformation happening in the utility scale energy generation businesses are starting to be left behind. Unable in a lot of cases to gain energy security for themselves they are limited to playing a passive role in both their own energy resilience as well as the transition to renewables generally. Additionally as the transition and aging infrastructure is disrupted there is an impact of around of $150Bn a year in the US alone. To enable businesses to have resilient , affordable and renewable energy means helping them to understand the range of energy options available to them so they can gain energy security for themselves. VECKTA helps to solve this challenge for businesses by bringing a range of technologies and data in a way that lets them understand an optimal approach to any investment in energy infrastructure both today and in the future as the technology evolves. #podcast #energy #energysecurity
