Disability Pride Month As an Australian, I find it important to recognise and celebrate global movements that promote inclusivity and equality. Today marks the beginning of Disability Pride Month, celebrated every July to honour the achievements, experiences, and history of the disability community. Disability Pride Month was initiated to commemorate the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) on July 26, 1990. This landmark legislation was a pivotal moment in the fight for civil rights for people with disabilities, breaking down barriers and ensuring greater access and opportunities. Although this celebration began in the United States, the values it promotes resonate worldwide. In Australia, we continue to strive for a more inclusive society where everyone, regardless of ability, can live with dignity, equality, and pride. Let’s use this month to amplify the voices of people with disabilities, share their stories, and advocate for greater inclusivity and support. Together, we can continue to build communities that embrace diversity and empower all individuals. #DisabilityPrideMonth #Inclusion #Equality #GlobalMovement #Community #ndis #outlookaustralia

Today is National Disability Independence Day, which commemorates the July 26, 1990, signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). It's a day to celebrate the strength, resilience, and efforts advocates and lawmakers put forth to address the discrimination and injustices endured by people with disabilities. The ADA prohibits discrimination against people with disabilities—both seen and unseen—and its signing was a historic event that fundamentally changed the lives of many for the better. At CRA, we are committed to fostering a culture of inclusion. We believe that diversity is not just a word but a powerful catalyst for innovation and growth. As we reflect on our dedication to building a workplace that is accessible and supportive for individuals with disabilities, we celebrate the unique skills, perspectives, and talents that they bring to our team. We also acknowledge that there is still work to be done to break down barriers and create a genuinely inclusive and equitable society. Today serves as a reminder of the importance of advocating for the rights and inclusion of all individuals. Together, we can create a world where everyone can thrive and contribute their best. #ADA33 #inclusiveworkplace #CRAlwaysLearning #diversityatwork

In July, we commemorate Disability Pride Month! Disability Pride Month was first recognized in 2015 by then-NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio in honor of the 25th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. This annual observance promotes visibility and awareness of the positive pride felt by people with disabilities. The overall mission of Disability Pride Month is to help change the way people think about and define “disability,” to break down and end the internalized shame among people with disabilities, and to promote the belief that disability is a natural and beautiful part of human diversity in which people living with disabilities can take pride. Today marks the 33rd anniversary of the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Commemorating this anniversary is an opportunity to acknowledge the progress we have made and also to recognize the work that remains. In philanthropy, it is absolutely essential that we integrate disability into our grantmaking efforts and support organizations doing critically important work in disability justice. To be truly inclusive, we have to go beyond mere compliance with legal requirements; we have to center the perspectives of disabled people and work to foster environments that are not only physically accessible, but also foster a sense of belonging, empowerment, and dignity for everyone. Accommodations and access are key parts of creating healthy communities and ensuring that every person, including those with visible and non-apparent disabilities, can fully participate, contribute, and thrive. As Disability Pride Month ends, today’s anniversary also offers a reminder that our commitment must remain steadfast throughout the year. Let's continue to advocate for change, because dismantling barriers and empowering one another, is a step closer to building a healthier future for all. #disabilityinclusion #disability #disabilityrights #accessibility #diversityequityinclusion

July is Disability Pride Month- Let's raise awareness, boost voices, and learn about disability history! Since the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was passed in July 1990, progress has been made, but there's more work to do for truly inclusive spaces. Disability includes invisible barriers like learning disabilities, neurodiversity, chronic illnesses, and mental health conditions. It's crucial to respect how individuals identify—whether they prefer "person with a disability" or "disabled person." Creating inclusive environments involves addressing ableism, challenging the notion that some bodies and minds hold more value than others. This means considering how spaces are designed, using inclusive language, and ensuring better representation of people with disabilities in media and history. To contribute, educate yourself about different disabilities, be mindful of your language, and assess if your organization's processes pose any barriers. Let's celebrate progress during Disability Pride Month and commit to a more inclusive and accessible world for all! #DisabilityPride #Inclusion #Diversity #Equality #Equity #Belonging

In case you didn’t know, July is Disability Pride Month. While it celebrates the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, some places here in Canada—like Toronto—also celebrate Disability Pride Month. It’s about promoting inclusivity and recognizing the value that people with disabilities bring to our communities and workplaces as we strive to create a more accessible society. About 15% of the world's population—or approximately 1 billion people—have some form of disability. And yet, there are countless barriers those with disabilities struggle with day by day, even as we become a more technological society. As new legislation is introduced around the world, we’re reminded how important it is to create accessible environments and ensure equal opportunities for all. #DisabilityPrideMonth #InclusionMatters #CelebratingDiversity #Accessibility #ADA
