For the past 20 years, the National Girls Collaborative Project has led the way for girls in STEM as the nationโs largest network of girl-serving organizations. We have made great progress, but itโs not enough. Twenty years later, women continue to face significant barriers in STEM professions. Throughout our National Convening, the following themes emerged: ๐ The importance of centering girlsโ voices and valuing girlsโ unique experiences. ๐ Learning from existing efforts rather than reinventing the wheel. ๐ Connecting diverse sectors through collaboration. ๐ Shifting the dialogue about STEM to focus on inspiring curiosity in STEM and changing the messaging about math. ๐ Acknowledging the important role corporations play in community engagement. We have produced a report containing five recommendations for action. The Executive Summary, full Report, and more information about the event can be found at ngcproject.org/action

Project Coordinator @STEM is FEM| Head of CSR projects@Truman Agency| PR and media relations specialist
We are relaunching STEM is FEM. 5 years is a long time. During this time, we grew, developed, and reached heights we could not even dream of initially. And now we are turning from a local project into a global STEM ecosystem. The first in Ukraine) Why an ecosystem? Because it's about involving everyone. In an ecosystem, all links rely on each other to grow together. Each component is important in the ecosystem. And I increasingly see education as an ecosystem. If the interests, expertise, or influence of any group - students, teachers, parents, educators, the state, business, or society - are thrown out of it, a gap appears, and the entire structure is threatened. That is why we are building an ecosystem in which everyone will be included. Our goal is gender equality in technical fields and society, young people who get the careers they dreamed of, employers who get trained and motivated staff, and Ukraine that prospers thanks to our science and business. So if you have girls between the ages of 14 and 22 who are dreaming of a career in STEM, give them this link: https://lnkd.in/dQ6Fafkm If you see yourself as a mentor, speaker, or expert, if your business has already reached the point where you see that investing in education is necessary for everyone, or if you are already working towards the same goals, then write to me. The ecosystem is for everyone)

Happy International Women's Day to every woman and girl! ๐ฅณ As a young woman, I've always harbored skepticism about sharing my victories or talents. Throughout my upbringing, I engaged in various activities and groups at school, including choreography, newscasting, and marching, among others. Yet, I rarely discussed them, avoiding the limelight and attention. However, I now realize that by doing so, I was only hindering my own progress. ๐ Acknowledging one's achievements or showcasing talents primarily benefits oneself. Maintaining a record of one's accomplishments has manifold advantages: 1.) Building Confidence: It fosters belief in one's abilities, bolstering self-assurance. 2.) Serving as a Reminder: On days when motivation ebbs and self-doubt creeps in, these achievements serve as poignant reminders of past successes, encouraging perseverance. These achievements or talents need not be monumental feats; they could be idiosyncratic traits. Whether it's ambidexterity, publishing a first book, organizational prowess, athletic prowess, academic excellence, or proficiency in a particular subject, each success is worth celebrating.๐ Learning to assert one's voice is an essential skill, one that I, too, am striving to master. That's why I initiated the STEM Girls Networkโa platform that amplifies the voices and endeavors of young African women and girls in STEM fields through media representation.๐ฉ๐ฝ๐ค๐ฉ๐ฟ Click the link below and join us. Please share this initiative with the young women and girls in your circle. Happy International Women's Day! Join the STEM Girls Network ๐ https://lnkd.in/d2p4kJ2e

Every year on March 8, the world celebrates the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, as well as calls attention to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women. Education plays a large role in addressing these issues. Did you know that since the early 1990s, women's enrolment in post-secondary education has skyrocketed? While more and more women are pursuing education to embolden, empower, and encourage themselves, how is the world of education supporting them? To help inspire you, and spread the word about opportunities for women, check out what some schools and scholarships admins are doing to celebrate and support women in college and university. Once upon a time, there was an elephant named Kavi who lived in a lush forest. Before I continue with this storyโฆ The womanโs place is only in the kitchen! For so long, this was the popular narrative. So many bright and talented young women heard this over again till they believed it. Who was supposed to break the societal norm? So #mothers just danced to its rhythm continuously and eventually passed the dancing shoes to the next generation, and nextโฆ But then, can one proffer a solution without first addressing itโs cause? Hence we took our research a little furtherโฆ For us at YOUNG FEMALES IN STEM #YFSTEM our eye is single and it is In accordance with #SDG4, promoting gender #diversity and #inclusion, in STEM fields Back to our storyโฆ When Kavi was just a baby, his owner tied him to a tree with a thick rope. As Kavi grew, so did the tree, but the rope stayed the same length, becoming embedded in his skin. Years passed, and although Kavi grew strong, the memory of the rope binding him to that spot never faded. Eventually, the rope became frayed and worn, until one day it finally snapped. Kavi was free, yet he remained rooted to the spot where he had been tethered for so long. Despite the freedom to roam, Kavi's mind couldn't shake the feeling of confinement. He felt bound by invisible chains, trapped by the memory of his past captivity. So, he stayed near the tree, unable to venture beyond the boundaries that had once confined him physically but now held him mentally. The other animals in the forest watched with sadness as Kavi lingered in his self-imposed prison. They tried to coax him to explore the vast wonders beyond the familiar surroundings, but Kavi couldn't break free from the chains of his own mind. And so, Kavi spent the rest of his days under the shade of the tree, a symbol of both physical and mental captivity, a reminder that true freedom comes not just from the absence of physical restraints, but from the liberation of the mind. From our ongoing research, we realised if females are going to pursue their dreams in whatever fields whatsoever, in STEM careers, unlike Kavi, they most first embrace freedom and break the boundaries that has held the females afore time bound! This draft recommendations report from the Australian government into addressing diversity in STEM is a great read. It draws from industry engagement and world's best practice to develop the recommendations. I also love the summary of different programs at the end of the report. This is a great opportunity to have your say about these recommendations that will shape the future of STEM in Australia for many years to come. The link to the report can be found in the Dream Big Australia post.
โWhat needs to be done to give underrepresented groups a better chance in Australiaโs STEM industry? The Diversity in STEM Review by Department of Industry, Science and Resources science and resources is looking for your input! ๐ https://lnkd.in/gkCWAPz9 Until 8 September 2023, there is an opportunity to provide feedback on the draft recommendations to ensure they meet the needs of Australiaโs STEM sector. The review will recommend how the Australian Government can support change so that all people can have access to and feel welcome in STEM education, careers, and industries. While all people in Australia and organisations with a connection to STEM are encouraged to share feedback. Particularly encouraged to participate are people in historically underrepresented groups in STEM, including but not limited to: โจ women and girls โจ First Nations people โจculturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people โจpeople living in regional and remote areas โจpeople with disability โจpeople from low-socio economic backgrounds โจneurodiverse people โจLGBTQIA+ people โจpeople who face age-based discrimination. This is a chance to have the views and needs of diverse people in STEM heard, so we encourage our Dream Big community to take part to share their valuable insights. #womeninSTEM #womeninSTEAM #AusScience #DiversityinSTEM

It's critical to support children, especially girls, in pursuing STEM interests and cultivating a sense of responsibility. We (Vinay Kumar.C) assisted our daughter in selecting and focusing on women in a variety of professions, including the police, fire department, teacher, and doctor, for her first-grade project. A child's perspective on gender roles and career choices can be greatly influenced by small actions, such as having a conversation about the contributions these women have made to society and their work - while carefully and rightfully choosing the profile's. As a community, we must encourage women participation in STEM as well more inclusive and diverse world for future generations. In your experience, Kaustubh P Jadhav Tarana Thakurdas Harish P. Annu Arora Rakhee Chhabria Stella Clark Willibrord George Antoinette Hamilton and others - what are some effective strategies to foster STEM interest and cultivate a sense of responsibility in young minds? How can we, as a community, collectively encourage #girlseducation in #STEM fields, paving the way for a more #inclusive and #diverse future?

Digital Curriculum Lead - Teaching and Learning, MIEExpert, MIE, MCE, Microsoft Master Trainer, Apple Teacher Pearson National Teacher Awards -Silver Award Winner - Digital Innovator of the Year 2024
In my teaching career, the key to inspiring STEM interest in girls is clear: visibility and active engagement. Showcasing women in STEM as role models and integrating their achievements into our curriculum is vital. Hands-on activities, from science experiments to coding, spark excitement and curiosity. We must also create community events to celebrate STEM, involving local role models and businesses. Celebrate women in technology, shine a spotlight on their contributions and achievements. Create platforms where their stories of innovation and leadership can inspire the next generation. Acknowledge local trailblazers in tech & underscore the reality that female role models donโt just exist in the global arena but are also making significant strides in our own community. By lifting up these women, we send a powerful message to our young learners: the tech world is yours to shape and lead As educators, we must strive to be inclusive and supportive, helping every student feel empowered. By championing these efforts, we're not just teachingโwe're shaping a diverse future for STEM. As a community, if we commit to these approaches, I truly believe we'll pave the way for a more inclusive and diverse world. #inclusion #school #education #mieexpert Dr Stella Scharinger Helen Evemy
