How many times did you look in the mirror today? It’s okay if you can’t recall the exact number. Read on. You might have heard of numerous interviews where the candidate was asked how many stairs they climbed on their way to the room or the number of cars parked outside the building etc. Well, something along those lines. The usual moral of it would be to be more observant about one’s surroundings. What most of these stories fail to convey is the importance of inference along with observation. These two skills are complementary and one without the other is not very effective. Let’s look at this with an example. Consider a retail company analyzing its sales performance. Observability involves tracking real-time sales data, website traffic, and customer behaviors. Meanwhile, inferability goes beyond this by analyzing patterns to infer correlations between promotions and spikes in sales. For instance, observing increased sales during a particular promotion (observability) and inferring that it's due to a targeted marketing campaign (inferability) highlights the importance of both aspects in understanding and optimizing business strategies. Ultimately, noticing what's happening is crucial, but understanding why it's happening is what drives smarter choices. #skillsdevelopment #selfdevelopment
