🛬Future in Flight🛫 The Department of Energy, through Sandia National Laboratories, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) seeking details on available technologies, approaches, and business models for countering uncrewed aircraft systems (cUAS), commonly known as drones. 📡 The RFI, released on behalf of the National Nuclear Security Administration, emphasizes the need for highly agile and adaptable command and control (C2) systems capable of seamless integration of sensors, effectors, and C2 algorithms from different suppliers. The goal is to address the evolving threat posed by small UAS and plan for a long-term, next-generation approach to counter the UAS threat. The Department of Energy is particularly interested in systems that can be fully adaptable to different sites, including high-security areas with varying terrains and population densities. The RFI outlines three critical goals: 1️⃣ Maximizing system performance and extensibility 2️⃣ Fully documenting system decision processes 3️⃣ Ensuring government ownership of the core technical elements of the cUAS system Data transparency is emphasized, with a core requirement for exposing source code and training data to the government, extending to operations involving sensors capable of handling both raw and processed data. The Department of Energy aims to gather information until the end of January to inform its strategy for countering the security challenges posed by the widespread availability and rapid evolution of small UAS. Interested in submitting information? Check out the link here for more details ➡️ https://buff.ly/3SfXd7r 📣 Let us know in the comments if you plan to respond and share your thoughts on what security concerns may exist for the future of shared airspace with drones!

DARPA has tapped Raytheon to design and develop a wireless, airborne relay system to "deliver energy into contested environments," as part of its Energy Web Dominance program, in which DARPA wants to be able to power anything from nearly anywhere. Under a two-year, US$10 million DARPA contract, Raytheon will create a Persistent Optical Wireless Energy Relay (POWER) system, using a series of high altitude unmanned aircraft equipped with laser-based power receiving and transmitting capabilities. Energy will be beamed up to high altitude, then relayed across however many jumps are necessary to reach the target area. That target might be on the ground, or it might itself be another autonomous aerial platform, in which case it could stay airborne as long as necessary, its batteries being constantly charged from afar. With enough of these power-relaying birds in the air, the POWER system creates an "energy web" that military logisticians can use to route energy where it's most needed at a moment's notice. It's a supply line in the sky, capable of giving land, sky or sea-based robots indefinite endurance, or sending the same energy elsewhere if it's strategically necessary.

Funding to develop VTOLs and hydrogen propulsion technologies ⬇️ Piasecki Aircraft Corporation has received a $37 million contract from AFWERX to flight demonstrate its Aerial Reconfigurable Embedded System (ARES) tilt-duct VTOL UAS. The contract, awarded in conjunction with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), as part of its STRATFI program, will also see the demonstration of hydrogen fuel cell propulsion technologies. More details > > https://hubs.la/Q02bhZXb0 “The STRATFI program plays a critical role in advancing emerging American technologies and we are thrilled to receive this significant investment,” said John Piasecki, CEO of Piasecki Aircraft. “This new funding will allow us to demonstrate ARES’ unique tilt-duct configuration, which enables seamless transition between hover and fixed-wing forward flight — a technological leap that would address critical aerial challenges faced by the U.S. military. The STRATFI test program will also fund the demonstration of zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell propulsion technology for VTOLs, including our forthcoming PA-890 compound helicopter. Demonstration of the PA-890 would be a world-first for electric aviation and would usher in a new era of clean vertical flight. While R&D work on these projects began several years ago, this new funding will rapidly expand our ability to deliver these radically new vehicles to customers and partners across the military and commercial sectors.” Read more on the AAMI website. #vtol #aircraft #aviation #aerospace #advancedairmobility #aam #transport #hydrogen #technology #tech

‘’The Tele Radio remote control takes the operability of the Triton 660/9 AVA to the next level. When the underwater team on the Scenic Eclipse II launch their 660/9 AVA submarine from the underwater bunker, Tele Radio's radio control allows the team to bring the submarine to a safe distance from the ship before boarding. This reduces the time the submarine is near the mother ship during the most difficult period of dive operations: launch and recovery. Moreover, the remote control gives the deck officer more control over the submarine while it is unmanned but being launched or recovered.’’ - Arthur Muttock, Engineer / Project Manager at Triton Submarines LLC The Tele Radio TIGER remote control provides real-time feedback from on-board instruments on the submarine. But that is not the only reason to choose this radio remote control system. Tiger provides maximum safety to various types of industrial applications, it is independently SIL3, PLe certified. www.tele-radio.com www.tritonsubs.com (Source of images: Triton Submarines and Nick Verola) #TeleRadio #TritonSubmarines #SubmarineOperations #TigerRemoteControl
