Recently was asked to facilitate a Leadership Essentials DEI discussion with the #KPMG GAMG leadership team and here are a few reflections I left with: -Treating everyone the same doesn’t work when you don’t know enough about everyone to be fair -People don’t want to be treated the same at the expense of seeing their individuality -Sometimes by treating someone the same and ignoring an important difference about them, you can actually do harm -While we can debate what is appropriate to do, if we do nothing, what is the default state and is that what creates the highest performance or just more of the same? We also discussed the power of connection and how inclusion (or lack thereof) has many faces. While like most organizations we have a ways to go, proud to be at a company where leadership teams like this one under Larry Bradley are making an effort to live and breathe DE&I and are open to criticism and seeking constant improvement.
