Curiosity is a prerequisite of any good director, but board leaders need to cultivate the most curious mindsets as they get up to speed with accelerating technology. We are working with some of the most senior board directors and business leaders in the country as part of the EY Technology Governance program. From this, EY teams have pinpointed several behaviours that board directors can embrace to cultivate tech-curiosity.

MEM Think and Lead Series: Tammy Montgomery The MEM department at North Carolina State University had the privilege of hosting Tammy Montgomery, an NCSU alumna who currently serves as a Specialist Master in the AI and Data Operations sector focusing on Government and Public Services at the prestigious firm, Deloitte. This enlightening engagement was a component of the weekly "Think and Lead" series, showcasing the caliber of industry expertise and leadership that NC State's MEM program seeks to inspire and emulate. A thought-provoking and insightful presentation began with the introduction of the concept of BLUF (Bottom Line Up Front), which emphasized the importance of delivering clear and concise messages from the very start. Tammy actively undertook measures towards understanding her audience. Through thought-provoking questions, meaningful discussions, and an engaging style, she provided a testament to effective communication, making her session both informative and highly interactive. Subsequently, she shared her invaluable insights, leaving a lasting impression on the audience: 🔹 Navigating Industry Boundaries: Tammy's academic background includes a Master's Degree (MR) in Integrated Manufacturing Systems Engineering and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Industrial Engineering, both earned at North Carolina State University. Her transition from NCSU to Deloitte was marked by uncertainty, and she openly admitted that her entry into Deloitte was somewhat serendipitous. She initially struggled with applying her ISE knowledge in management consulting but soon realized the importance of thinking beyond industry boundaries. 🔹 A Higher Purpose: Throughout her career, Tammy consistently directed her thoughts towards making a positive impact on families, communities, and the world at large through her work. She encouraged students to explore beyond the scope of their academic pursuits, urging them to think outside the confines of their traditional boundaries. 🔹 The Power of Relationships: Tammy stressed the importance of building strong relationships as a foundation for dealing with tough stakeholders. She encouraged everyone to cultivate a personal brand that aligns with their individual identity and aspirations within a particular industry or company. 🔹 Impact with Existing Skills: She prompted the audience to reflect on how they could leverage their preexisting skills to make a meaningful impact on the world.
