👋 This one is for all my #Chicago folks. As many of you know Chicago was where #Foxtrot was born & it evolved in front of many of us. You physically could see the differences in the stores & what we referred to as the evolution of Foxtrot. Many of the folks on this list were a part of that evolution & history - they were the ones that were saying "Let's try it!" or "We can figure it out!". Many of them have so much history & learnings under their belt. They tested, piloted & provided feedback on about every single thing that became a Foxtrot process. Many grew their roles from hourly to management & many were on the cusp of their next role. When organizations do something they know is wrong, they do it intentionally quietly. It’s why, despite all the fanfare every time a CDO role was created and filled, entire Diversity teams are quietly being fired in layoff rounds. Not a single press release. I share this because, in this situation, increasing visibility is a counteraction, an effortless form of protest. It says ‘we see what you’re really doing and we’re keeping track’. So, even if you see the same story up and down your timeline (or someone you respect already shared it), there’s still value in you sharing it. You don’t have to have the right words. Just the medium to increase visibility.

Know what's delusional?   Thinking consistent behaviour will magically change.   Maple Leafs fans (like me) are a great example of delusional.   Our core group (Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares, Reilly) has been together for 5 years.   In those 5 years, they have made it past the first round of the playoffs once. Barely. They struggled to win.    Other teams like Florida or Las Vegas have more grit. There's a hunger to succeed.   I would argue the Maple Leafs lack that hunger. They're not built to win.   And every year, hope begins anew with the same core 5.   Where am I going with this?   Maybe your work "team" is like the Maple Leafs. No matter how much you coach or what you do, the performance doesn't get better.   How do you fix it?    Maybe it's time to change the chemistry. Consider a "trade" by moving outliers to another department.   Or perhaps you have to be drastic and "buy out the contract".    Bottom line - team chemistry is critical. If it's not there, make the change(s) needed to have that "hunger to win". If you have crossed paths with me, whether personally or professionally, you have heard me talk about my “leadership purpose” at UScellular. Receiving a Dynamic Deed at UScellular is always special, but this thoughtful submission in particular from a new hire that I began onboarding last week truly speaks to that purpose that I so openly speak about. For me, leadership is about more than just guiding a team—it's about understanding and supporting the individuals who make up that team. Leading with empathy means being there for new hires like Sydney, helping them navigate their first few weeks, and ensuring they feel valued, comfortable, and confident. People may not always remember what you did or what you didn’t do—but they will ALWAYS remember how you made them feel. My purpose is the people I lead, and it's through empathy, authenticity, and a shared vision for the future. We work towards achieving exceptional outcomes together. Not individually— but together.
