Yesterday I opened up my profile to see the “𝐭𝐨𝐩 𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠” badge on my profile. About 6 weeks ago I decided to see what it would take to actually get to the top 5%... Newsflash - A LOT. To get a top voice badge (that only stays on my profile for 90 days unless I keep posting and staying that in the top 5%) I had to: 1. ONLY add value to the personal branding category. LinkedIn kept pinging me “you were selected to answer this question about Communications / Coaching / Marketing, etc.” Stick with the thing you want to have a badge in. These were always only prompted to me via the mobile experience vs the desktop one. Now, if you want to have multiple badges, you will live on LinkedIn and it’s summertime… Go outside and talk to people IRL. 2. Answer honestly. Some of the prompts are ridiculous. Like this one, “Here's how you can navigate common career failures by avoiding these mistakes.” We must make mistakes so we can learn from them! 3. I had to answer 2-3 prompts EVERY DAY for 6+ weeks. That’s a lot of content not living on my own profile page. For every prompt there are 7 individual sub-prompts. Focus on one question a day and then answer multiple prompts. I was stuck at the top 6% for 3 weeks. I was also not alerted that I finally made it. It just appeared. 4. Don’t abandon your regular LinkedIn programming. Comment, like, engage. 5. Just because someone has a badge doesn’t mean they are experts or even that they know what they’re talking about when it comes to that subject. Some of the suggestions/answers in the personal branding sector I strongly disagree with. But, that’s also what makes the world go round - different ways of doing things! Use your best judgment when taking counsel. Look at people’s profiles, client testimonials and other content before taking their advice (me included!). Will having this badge do anything for me personally? I’ll let you know! Do you have a badge? What was your experience in getting it? Do you want to go for one now? #goodadvice #personalbranding #topvoice #thoughtleadership

Congratulations and thank you so much for being so candid as always! I think #3 is the most valuable info, and as you say that's a lot of content that's not on your page. Have you seen anything about what LI plans to do with this information in the long run? I mean, are we training its LLM that will generate learning content they eventually get paid for? Just wondering with my cynical GenXer hat on...

I have a badge! Not sure it has done anything for me TBH. Time will tell. And #4 is where it’s at IMO.
