Last week, Hazel Moores, Jérémy PAILHES-JIMENEZ, and Lewis White C.Eng, F.I.Mech.E took time away from their usual responsibilities to attend the Employee Ownership Association Annual Conference at the ACC Liverpool.
Scitech has been an 100% employee-owned company since 2012. We realised that the EO model would support the retention of the values that are so important to us as we grow. Through employee ownership, it is our colleagues and customers that continue to benefit.
We felt it important for our colleagues to attend the conference, not only to add our voice to discussions but as an opportunity for us to continue to learn and share insights. As with all areas of our business, we strive to follow best practices and build on our EO model to further reap the benefits of employee ownership for our colleagues, our business and our clients.
Reflecting on the conference, Hazel said: "It was brilliant to be able to meet and speak to so many people from other employee-owned businesses and to talk and learn from their experiences. There are so many new companies becoming employee-owned so it will be really exciting to see how things develop over the next few years."
Jeremy added: "Attending the conference was a great way of exchanging ideas with other employee-owners. My key take-home was just how important communication is. External communication is key to developing a business but internal communication within the company is also important to share the company’s vision and mission."

During our time together, we delved deep into our services and customer satisfaction strategies, outlined our game plan for H2, and laid the groundwork for an even more successful next year. The energy, collaboration, and innovative ideas shared were truly remarkable. Love how the discussions were not just about strategies and targets, but also about fostering a winning mindset as a team, how to work more closely together across time zones and borders and create more opportunities for the wider services organisation

Y'all know by now I'm a hardcore fan of #RecFestUSA.
I should probably clarify that I'm in NO way affiliated with them, I have no dog in this race outside genuine love of the craft, and appreciation for others with the same.
This poll was in Recruiting Brainfood, asking readers which event will top their priority wheel in 2024. (One very notably missing is #SourceCon - but that might be US specific, where this audience is more focused on global).
Here's my personal experience, and thoughts on why #RecFestUSA is / was so successful.
RecFest tickets cost $199 (early bird), $299 I believe was the max price tag - but correct me if I'm wrong! ALSO, recruiters who were out of work were offered free tickets, and given spotlight at the event to facilitate networking.
I'm extremely well known in my professional circles to be an avid learner, early adopter of new technology, etc. In short - I want my hands on all the new information in my field. ALL OF IT. (I.e. the ideal attendee at an event focused on learning.)
At the time the event was announced I was employed with a Fortune 500 Organization with certainly deep enough pockets to foot the cost. But they didn't. 🤷♀️
I was able to attend without this sponsorship because of the low cost. And I spent two PACKED days surrounded by like-minded TA nerds. I met amazing people who have offered themselves as unlimited resources to me. I came home with a notebook full of scribbles that have since become action.

𝘐𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘴𝘵.
The other two events that I'd have interest in are over $1,000 per ticket. One is offering free tickets to HR Executives with "purchasing power", and both are offering discounts when purchasing tickets in bulk.
You know who can't reasonably afford to go to those events?
Me. And people like me - the TA nerds, the solopreneurs just starting out, etc.
But you know who can?
Larger organizations. (And one is even incentivizing the person in the organization who can cut a check - NOT the person doing the work.)
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗺𝘆 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁?
This structure makes no sense, IF the desired outcome is an engaging and informative event! By design, the tickets are priced for organizations to "send their team" - making attendance compulsory to a degree, versus enthusiastically voluntary. And the content seems to be conforming to this more "casual observer" of recruitment and HR, versus the hardcore super users.
Event producers / organizers - find a way to make your events accessible to the people actually performing the work!! Cut the "celebrity speakers", seek sponsors, whatever needs doing. Get the audience in the door that will force you to elevate your content.
I'm not alone in having a low tolerance for pointless networking - if I'm spending money and time to travel, I want to learn!!
Strongly hoping that this newcomer to the US recruitment event space lifts ALL our events!
And I'm so here for it.

Why is RecFest THE talent event you should be bringing your team to?
Because it's the "perfect mix of chill vibes, knowledge infusion, and pure fun!"
Because when it comes to the content the "talks are insightful and inspiring, and the networking opportunities are endless..."
Because we'll make sure the atmosphere will be "safe, warm, welcoming, and really spectacular."
And that's just some of the incredible feedback we've had come back from our events this year!
Clearly, it's something that 37% of Hung Lee's Recruiting Brainfood audience agree with as well, as they chose #RecFest as their go to for next's year's Recruiting/HR event.
