It is essential to prioritize the mission and the people involved in achieving it. Focus on creating valuable experiences for people involved in the mission instead of accomplishing a high volume of tasks. Quality should be the top priority. This approach ensures that the people involved are motivated, committed, and productive, leading to more significant achievements. No expectations can still lead to disappointment if there’s also no action. We like to expect more of ourselves from what we did yesterday but never expect something of each other for tomorrow. This makes us individually successful and mentally stronger, and naturally makes us successful as a team #passiton #foodforthought #noexpectations #nonprofits #mentalstrength #teamwork #personalgrowth

This is what I bang on about. Moving into leadership/management for the first time is one of the biggest challenges you will face in your career. And many people aren't prepared for the change. Steve gives some great tips to prepare yourself for the new role in this post. And if you want some support, drop me a line.

Stepping into a leadership role from within your charity can be harder than stepping into one from outside. • You often have to do the new job AND the old job for a while. • You've got big changes in mind, but how long do you wait? • It's unusual to have an induction. You know the drill, right? • People expect you to know everything from Day One. • You expect yourself to know everything from Day One! • Relationships change. No more invitations to the pub. You've worked hard to get promoted, so it can feel bittersweet. Some things which can help: • Be ready to run with a plan to recruit for your current role. • Bleed your predecessor dry before they go, if you can! • Have firm boundaries to avoid doing both jobs at once. • Identify your knowledge/skills gaps for your induction. • Set clear expectations with your Board and your Team. • Communicate what will change - and what won't - and when. • Treat it like a new job, give yourself time to adjust. You've done well to get this far, so go easy on yourself - and enjoy it! #charity #nonprofit #nonprofitleadership
