Often times when we referred to Pinehurst as the St. Andrews of American golf, it felt aspirational. Upon reflecting on my first trip to Scotland, it is abundantly clear St Andrews Links & Pinehurst Resort share a kindred spirit that connects with the souls of golfers unlike any other golf destination I’ve experienced. It’s the presence of the R&A and the USGA, Old Tom and Donald Ross, The Open rota and the U.S. Open anchor site….its the sense of place that oozes intangibles that cannot be replicated. Grateful to Neil Coulson and Laurie Watson for your genuine hospitality and friendships.
I’ve been blessed to play at both, and I’ll pick Pinehurst, every time. You and your team deliver.
Great you finally got to visit. It’s a very special place!
I had the pleasure and good fortune to take a golf trip with my Dad and brother to Scotland several years ago, where we played St Andrews and several other courses. As a precursor to the trip we played #2 a couple of months beforehand, which we had also never played. I experienced everything you’ve described. Playing #2 right before St Andrews really helped tie the history of the two courses together and I feel it made the Scotland trip even more meaningful.
that backswing looks strong!! We could have used that on the golf team!
What rich golf history Eric Kuester! But there’s something to be said for that 2 hour drive to one of the finest golfing venues the world…known by a number!
Great pics, Eric! Careful of the pubs...they might help the swing, but could add a few pounds!
Very true (recently been to both)! 👏👏👏
Great post. Beautiful photos
