Principal QA Engineers - what's the real deal? Why do we need titles like principal QA engineer? We already have Senior and Lead QA engineers, as well as roles like QA manager, QA Team Lead, and Department Head (the universal one). It can feel like we're inventing new titles left and right, from enthusiasts to distinguished QA engineers, superstars, ninjas, etc. So, here's the question: What's the actual difference between Principal and Senior QA Engineers (or Lead/Technical Lead QA)? It's a fair question, and it's one that many of us are pondering. Personaly, I can't answer it and I tried to find a clear answer but I couldn't. If you're a Principal QA Engineer, can you shed some light on this? Do we genuinely need this title? Based on my findings, it seems I might have what it takes to be a Principal – what are your thoughts? #qa #principalengineer #principalqaengineer #qaengineer #qaroles #jobtitles #jobrequirements #jobresponsibilities #qaanalyst #qalead #techlead #qateamlead

One day, all these companies will see the value in good QA/Testing/QE Leadership! If any of the affected leaders want to reach out for a chat and support, happy to help you craft your CV or just try and help you move forward and find that role where you’re valued as a testing leader! #HelpingHands #QA #QE #Leadership
Unfortunately, there's still plenty of QA Leaders out of work due to redundancies, with plenty of companies seeing it as a quick fire way to save money. There's definitely been improvements in QA, with plenty of candidates securing new positions, but I'd still say there's a shortage of companies looking to hire at QA management level (in my opinion), than there has been in previous years. I'm also seeing the knock-on effect that it has on QA engineers that originally reported into a QA leader, who are now reporting into a CTO, Head of Dev etc - who may have slightly different priorities/views on QA than their previous QA manager, so it's leaving some demotivated and lacking the drive they had from their previous manager whose main focus was quality assurance. The market is still quite far off where it has been previously, but there's definitely been improvements which is nice to see - long may it continue!
