Fantastic points made by my colleague, STEVE CURRY, CFP(R) NFP. He highlights the missing link in employee wellness programs - money and well-being. It's important to understand the impact financial stress can have on an individual's overall well-being. Companies should consider incorporating financial wellness programs to support their employees' financial health. #employeebenefits #financialwellness #wellnessprograms

The Wellness Council of Wisconsin helps employers prioritize the well-being of their employees. This involves three key aspects: foundational, strategic, and systemic. Foundational means that employee well-being is essential for individuals, organizations, and communities. Employers who prioritize employee well-being invest in programs and resources to meet the unique well-being needs of their employees. Strategic means employers connect employee well-being to their organization's core values, goals, and business priorities. Employers make well-being a focus when making decisions about operations, team structures, job descriptions, policies, and more. Systemic means that employee well-being is impacted by a range of interconnected factors. Employers take into account their workforce's community, socio-economic circumstances, and cultural backgrounds. They align wellbeing with their equity and inclusion strategies, corporate social responsibility efforts, and public health strategies to positively impact not just their employees, but also their larger communities. How is your organization placing importance on the well-being of its employees across various areas?

Payroll-deducted, employer-rewarded Emergency Savings as a Benefit. If employees are already treating the 401k as if it's an Emergency Savings Account, it's probably time for a real Emergency Savings Account.
What is the employee participation threshold to make an employee benefit worth it? It has amazed me how many employers I talk to that have launched some sort of 'financial wellness' tool with single digit participation, and they're continuing to offer it and pay for it because they just don't think their employees will engage in anything - and at least by having it available it makes the employer look/feel like they're trying to do the right thing. All financial wellness tools are not going to yeild similar results. The whole term 'financial wellness' is fluffy and ambiguous to begin with... don't get me started. 🤓 So when this comes back as a top hit on an employee survey, and you launch a program to address it, only to see single digit participation -- well, the frustration is understandable. But the problem isn't necessarily your workforce choosing not to engage. It's more likely that the specific tool introduced didn't move the needle for them. Employees want something actionable - they want it to DO something. Financial literacy is wonderful - but it often boils down to messages of "spend less, save more." This is similar to physical health advice of "eat less, move more." People know these ideas, but its putting them into consistent action where the struggle happens. As an example, we consistently see 60%+ employee participation in our workplace emergency savings accounts as an employee benefit. So solutions that work are out there, it's just about finding the right ones that will make a difference for your workforce. Love that this article puts some sunlight on these points. #FinancialWellness #EmployeeParticipation #EmployeeBenefits
