Brand Strategist I Head of Marketing & Chief Instructor Jabulany fashion House l I help brands (esp. Fashion brands) increase sales and clients within 3-6 months
Referrals are a big deal! In business referrals are the 'auto pilots of your previous quality service or deliveries The idea is You did an amazing job for someone and once the person sees that the service you rendered is required elsewhere he doesn't get to think twice about bringing you on board; and because of the person that brought you on board the person that now needs your services needs not to have a re-confirmation about what you can do! It's like the new person saying 'I believe he can deliver' because this person I trust recommended him! When you're recommended, it's like putting the integrity of the person who recommended you at stake. You know why? Normally, the person that needs your services might have normally had to do a check just to be sure you can deliver; but because you were recommended by someone that is trusted, they'll just automatically agree that you'll be able to deliver That's how 'strong' recommendations are... Normally, you should always give your best shot in whatever you do! Moreso, if you're recommended you've got to do the best you can to deliver an excellent job; because a whole lot is at stake! And you can also be sure of this: Your amazing jobs will bring more people to your table!

Starting a service business as "the technician" is a tricky trap to get out of. You have to 1. break things down into simple chunks 2. hire, train, & manage junior team 3. while scaling sales It's a race to replace yourself in the business - it feels impossible at times

When you start helping not selling. "I facilitate/educate car deals, I don't just sell cars." Watch what happens when you change this mindset. People gravitate towards that energy. They just need a guide who knows the way. Furthermore, we are more educated in this industry now. We have access to KKB estimates, Car Fox for vehicle history, and every dealer's online portal for used/new inventory. You have to change your PROCESS. No excuses.

A couple of weeks ago, our car was totaled. As I've been going to various dealerships to look for a replacement, I find that both salespeople & recruiters can get a bad rap based off of a few poor experiences. 🚗 Example A: Walked into Dealer A, shared that our previous car was totaled. This salesperson first asked, "what car did you have?" They proceeded to be disengaged, didn't ask questions to get to know us, and were so clearly focused on a sale. We left feeling uninterested, even though I had done my research before. I was so anxious to have to go through this all over again somewhere new. 🚘 Example B: Walked into Dealer B, shared again about the car being totaled. This person first asked, "are you okay?" They engaged in a conversation asking what we were looking for, offering suggestions on what they thought we might like. They went through must-haves and nice-to-haves to make sure they understood our needs. They shared information about themselves as we chatted. Most important, they didn't push the sale on us and asked when a good time to follow up was. We left feeling even more interested in the car! Going into looking for a car, I dreaded being "sold" to and lumped most car salespeople together. A bad assumption, very clearly! It feels similar to a lot of what I've been reading lately about recruiters. Yes, there are recruiters who might not be the best, might be overwhelmed, might forget to respond to you, but for every bad recruiter, I like to think there's at least one good one out there to balance it out. This experience was a great reminder for me to keep an open mind and practice patience more often. (A trait I occasionally tend to lack 😊)

Recently, I was in an Uber discussing the importance of doing a job correctly the first time. Coincidentally, my driver was a former concreter who shared an interesting story. A customer had initially chosen a different, cheaper contractor because they thought it was a better fit. However, the work was subpar, and the customer ended up returning to the original concreter. Fixing the botched job ultimately cost nearly three times the original amount due to the need to remove and redo the work properly. Make sure you invest in the right advice, though it can be challenging when you have limited time or money. Ensuring you get the best guidance will ultimately save you money.

There is a joke that if car drivers were hired like software engineers, they'd be expected to have experience of driving both trucks, boats, trains and planes. I think it's kind of true for many positions these days. I wonder if we can have a system where you can: 1. Contact an HR of the company that you like first 2. Have a meeting with a potential teamlead where you discuss the skills that are missing or have to be impoved 3. You get those skills, while staying in touch and reporting on your progress, and only after that you take all the interview steps with all your super-teamleads and super-duper teamleads etc. It should work for the positions where the company hires on a regular basis. Sounds simple. I wonder why it hasn't been done yet, or has it?
