Congratulations to Fanatics Commerce’s Curtis H. for being recognized as a winner of Fanatics Impact Awards, which recognizes employees who have made significant contributions to their local communities through exceptional volunteer efforts.
Based out of Manchester, Curtis volunteers with Independent Monitoring Boards (IMB), which ensures individuals in prisons and detention centers across England and Wales are treated fairly and humanely and provides them with support to help turn their lives around. Curtis’ commitment to IMB has expanded his role as he was invited to help recruit new members to join the national campaign by sharing his own volunteer experience.
Thank you for all that you do, Curtis!

As we continue to celebrate #SecondChanceMonth24, we invite you to check out The National Reentry Resource Center at https://lnkd.in/g3kJQjRi.

This is absolutely wonderful, and I have such respect for both of these men for choosing to make positive changes.
The answer is not tougher prison sentences, the answer is rehabilitation, canine companionship, positive reinforcement, the opportunity to belong, and the support so these humans aren't set up for failure.
I have the utmost respect for programs such as the Pawsitive Change Prison Program. There is literally no limit to the capabilities of animals, and the ways in which they can change a human's life.
The brilliance of pairing dogs labeled with negativity, and prison inmates also labeled with negativity, is unmatched ♡.
These inmates and canines are proof that sometimes all you need...is a little kindness.
The next time you're thinking about donating to a great cause for work, school, or personally, please consider donating to programs such as this one.
This program and it's canine rehabilitators, are changing lives for humans across the US, one Pawsitive step at a time, and these amazing humans are reminding these canines, they are so much more than just dogs🐾 💙.

These men started out in the Pawsitive Change Prison Program as students at North Kern and Corcoran State Prisons respectively. They worked hard to be multi-term graduates of the program: https://lnkd.in/gs-Dzwe5 Each served nearly 20 years in prison and excelled in our vocational rehabilitation program. With jobs in the pet industry upon release, they are giving back to their community. Both David and Didontae are also employed by Marley’s Mutts as trainers in the Pawsitive Change Program for juveniles at LA County’s Camp Kilpatrick. They are bettering themselves and others while striving to leave a pawsitive impact wherever they go. #prisonreform#vocationalrehabilitation#prisoneducation#prison
📣 Establishing a strong relationship between local clubs and prisons is crucial for post-release engagement. 🤝
🌍 By considering geographic proximity, we ensure that our delivery supports and protects the local community. 🏘️
🤝 Our initiatives dovetail with other local community projects and provide through-the-gate support. Together, we can make a difference! 🤝
⚽️ We believe in collaboration, not competition. Our clubs do not cannibalize from each other, unless there is no other provision available. ⚽️
🔑 The Football Club Foundation acts as the primary through-the-gate support, guaranteeing engagement and transforming lives. 💪
🙌 Join us in our mission to improve mental and physical health, wellbeing, and employment opportunities for prisoners. Together, we can make a lasting impact! 🌟

If 9.5% of Principals in America are black serving children in “traditional” schools, how many black Principals you think that are serving predominately black children in prison? There is no data on it. I’m one of the few. Our children in prison have no black role models. What’s more diabolical than that is most therapist/counselors in prisons serving predominantly black boys are young white females. They have no shared experiences and most are afraid of the youth they serve. This is not coincidental but by design. The system by design is meant to keep black boys especially in prison for the rest of their life in prison. Rest assure I’m on crusade to save our boys from becoming part of the juvenile Justice System. #TheStrikesAndYouAreIn#PrisonPrincipal#ProjectSaveOurBoys#OneOfTheFew

Had the opportunity to deliver another self employment exploration workshop thanks to the grant from The National Lottery Community Fund.
Spoke to 10 men, all seeking to learn about becoming self-employed and earning a legitimate income.
As you can see in the graphic below, a wide mix of ideas and aspirations for the future, and people highlighting the skills and knowledge they have (mainly in their product / service) and the ones they need to develop (mainly in the practicalities of being self-employed).
As part of the funding, will be following up with some of the people who requested a more in-depth discussion to help define their idea more clearly.
As HMP Preston is a local prison, there was a mix of people waiting to go to court, awaiting sentencing or just staying a short while before being moved to other prisons.
It's never too early to start considering this pathway, and even if some of the people get a lengthy sentence, knowing this could be for them in the future can help to inform their long-term resettlement plans including the courses and actions they take along the way.
Question posed by one of the workshop attendees...
"Where can I go to seek help to find some start up funds - I want to earn a legitimate income and not come back to prison."
Funding always come up as a topic, with people highlighting the lack of funds to start up, even if they are still formulating their idea or have aspirations of setting up as handyman and will need a range of tools and equipment.
I have been asked how can someone know they need funds without having a plan in place, and I suppose the answer is if you know you have no access to funds it's going to be challenging so you have to find ways to plan for that (A bit chicken and egg unfortunately).
A conundrum that I still am working on...
What can my network suggest?
