As Second Chance Month draws to a close, it's crucial to recognize that our mission of #NormalizingOpportunity for people with records is far from over. There's still significant work ahead to dismantle the complex barriers imposed by our country's policies and systems, and we can't accomplish this alone. We need your support! 🌟 What can you do to normalize opportunity? 🌟 ✔️ Encourage your organization's leadership to explore fair chance hiring policies. ✔️ Support local, state, and federal legislation that advocates for #CleanState and other policies that create equitable economic opportunities for people with records. ✔️ Amplify the experiences of people impacted by the lifelong punishments of a record by sharing their stories with your network and social media followers. ✔️ Volunteer with and support community organizations providing education, training, and reentry services for individuals with records. ✔️ Recognize that 1 in 3 people in the United States has a record of arrest, conviction, or incarceration. These people are our neighbors, our friends, our family members, and the people we encounter every day. ✔️ Acknowledge that just as you've evolved over the years, so have people with records. Nobody is defined solely by their past. As we reflect on the progress made during #SecondChanceMonth 2024, let's also look ahead with renewed determination and commitment. Together, we can forge a future where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. Perfect example of how politicians should stay out of "running" our schools. Besides the mishandling and lack of funding towards education, now they want to dictate where monies schools do get, where they should be spent. Maybe if they took the time to fix and amend gun laws vs how educators should spend and use those monies that they do get we would make better progress in staffing our schools with what our student bodies need. Don't get me wrong, school safety is important, very important but then again, if they fixed those guns laws that would minimize and I hope and pray lessen the chance of gun violence we have been experiencing. But mental health and awareness is key, very key in a child's, young adult's education and upbringing and success.
Strings attached to Arizona School Safety Program dollars are leaving school counselor and social worker positions unfunded throughout the state, as Republican leaders prioritize boosting campus police instead. The apparent mismatch between what schools need and what certain state leaders want to give them reflects an ongoing clash over which types of positions actually make a campus safer. https://lnkd.in/gpKeSXkA

Educational policy analyst, Accreditation Specialist, Special Education Advocate, Student support specialist, Christian Counselor
From listening and working with students on academic probation and suspension, I've learned that these situations go beyond administrative measures; they deeply affect a student's self-esteem and motivation. When students get that notice about probation or suspension, they often feel shame, disappointment, defeat and fear. This is when compassion becomes incredibly important. Compassion isn't just a feeling; it's a powerful tool that helps reignite a student's motivation. It's about creating a space where students feel they matter and are understood, valued, and encouraged to bounce back from their setbacks. It's important to set aside judgment and instead put on the hat of compassion when supporting students on academic probation and suspension. Lift that student up because the path to their future has always been full of challenges. Deep down, you and I know they will get through if we educate and support them.
