In this week’s Freight Market Update, ocean carriers will likely extend the new Peak Season Surcharge into the second half of July. We’re also closely monitoring the extreme weather coming off the coast of South Africa, where we’ve seen waves falling to 23 to 26 feet and high winds. Vessels have resumed transiting around the Cape of Good Hope following the extreme weather in the region earlier. Estimated arrival times for vessels have been delayed by 24-48 hours. In the air freight sector, capacity from Asia is largely sold out for Q4 2024. Flexport advises that shippers focus on forwarders with strong Block Space Agreements (BSAs) and a solid charter base to mitigate delays, be flexible with booking sizes, and explore creative routing for cargo that can wait.
