🔵 𝐓𝐢𝐭𝐥𝐞: Road to Europe: Between the Berlin Process and the Open Balkan Initiative
🔵 𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜: The Balkans, as the author contends, have always been a politically tumultuous, socially dynamic, and culturally complex historical region acting not only as a geostrategic arena, but also as a vibrant melting pot of diverse national identities. 🔹 Over the past decades, the Open Balkan Initiative and the Berlin Process have come about as fundamental pillars of regional economic and political interconnectedness aiming to facilitate the EU accession of Balkan countries. 🔹 In this regard, the current paper stresses the paramount importance of strengthened cohesion among the Balkans, whilst emphasising the need for concerted EU-level efforts towards comprehensive cooperation and policy integration. 🔹 Ultimately, the paper examines the subtle interplay between Balkan leadership and European politics, which may jointly deliver a successful integrationist outcome, surpassing the region’s inherent inter-ethnic tensions and partly Eurosceptic sentiments.
