Future Link’s 15th Anniversary Spotlight series features a select few of the countless people and community partners who have contributed to Future Link’s success. Anne and Dave’s Mentor-Mentee partnership was a natural fit as Anne completes her bachelor’s degree in architecture, guided by Dave’s deep knowledge of the industry. Dave shares: “Since working with Anne, I have learned her love of architecture is driven by altruism and equity. Following in her late uncle’s footsteps, she wants to carry forth his mission of designing affordable, sustainable housing for families of limited financial means. Simultaneously, she intends to work towards ending the systemic inequities of the profession that has resulted in less than .5% of all licensed architects being black women. No doubt, she will accomplish both.” Anne values Dave’s support: “Dave truly cares about my success. One of my favorite memories with him is when we first visited Gensler and he introduced me to an architect I grew closer to. He has helped me improve my professional story for internship and scholarship applications. He is simply the best!” To Become a Future Link Mentor: https://lnkd.in/e9Rns_qg #shapingfutureprofessionals #firstgenprofessionals #futurelinkmd #futurelinkmentors #mentorsmakeadifference #findyourwhy #volunteersmakeitpossible #nextgenworkforcedevelopment #workforcedevelopment #mentorsmatter

Today, a new report from the Center for an Urban Future and The Bronx Community Foundation outlines actionable proposals from 50 influential Bronxites to enhance the borough's economic and social landscape. One notable idea, originating from our Hostos President Daisy Cocco De Filippis, is the creation of a year-long internship or work-study program for CUNY students in the Bronx. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between academia and practical experience while bolstering economic development and opportunities for Bronx residents. The report underscores the Bronx's pivotal role in New York City's economy, highlighting its substantial job growth and the imperative to address persistent challenges in affordability and access to essential services for its residents. The Better Futures Institute, in collaboration with the City of San Antonio, will host a series of conversations about the future of cities during the Civic Tech Scholars internship program. These conversations will focus on understanding the roles of public city officials, urban resilience, civic engagement, and the impact of civic technology and innovation in shaping the future of cities. We think of the future as something we all create together, not something that's already decided and waiting for us: The future is a group project. By creating spaces for dialogue and understanding the diverse needs of our communities, we're turning aspirations into actionable plans—come and help us build a future that benefits everyone. #BetterFuturesConversations Session 1: Urban Planning & Public Infrastructure This session will provide insights into the role of urban planning and public infrastructure in shaping a sustainable and resilient San Antonio, and explore innovative solutions and community place-making strategies that can enhance the quality of life for our city’s population. https://lnkd.in/gu72S6BR #betterfutures #betterfuturesinstitute #civictech #steameducation #stem

🚀 A New Chapter Begins!🚀 As a graduate of English language, I never imagined that my journey would lead me into the fascinating worlds of Special Economic Zones (SEZs), urbanisation, charter cities and economics. But here I am, embarking on an exciting new adventure! It all began during my time with Adrianople Group. My role there as a researcher on SEZs and cities sparked a passion that I never knew existed. The dynamics of urban development, the economic strategies that drive growth, and the innovative governance models of SEZs captivated me. My curiosity turned into a deep-seated passion, thanks in large part to the incredible support and mentorship I received from my team at Adrianople Group. A special shout-out to our CEO, Ivette Cano, whose visionary leadership has been truly inspiring. My Director of Research, Thibault Serlet, and Project Manager, Niza González, also played pivotal roles, standing by me and encouraging me to dive deeper into my research. Motivated by their belief in me, I applied for the CCI Urban Research Internship Program - Summer 2024 at the Charter Cities Institute. I am thrilled to share that I have been accepted and have officially started my internship! 🎉 The Charter Cities Institute is at the cutting edge of urban development, helping city developers with policies and regulations to foster economic growth and improve the quality of life for residents. I am excited to delve deeper into this field and contribute to meaningful research on charter cities and SEZs. Over the coming months, I will be sharing my insights and experiences on LinkedIn, covering topics such as urbanization, city planning, and the transformative potential of charter cities and SEZs. I hope to spread knowledge and engage with others who share a passion for urban development. Stay tuned for more updates and feel free to connect with me to discuss all things urban development! 🌍🏙️ #UrbanDevelopment #CharterCities #SEZs #UrbanResearch #CityPlanning #EconomicGrowth #AdrianopleGroup #CharterCitiesInstitute

Interesting article that touches on recurring subjects I've met throughout my career. Isn't every year in practice an apprenticeship? I do wonder though where this sits within the context of streamlining the whole building process and achieving the government's goals of making it far more efficient. Surely a knowledge of the basics is essential to stand a chance of entertaining the latest CAD and AI technology.
