📢 Technical Update from GameChange Solar!
We are happy to announce that our innovative rectangular head bolt design has achieved recognized component status per UL 2703 from Intertek. 🎉
Our patent-pending design streamlines installation and reinforces the connection between trackers and solar modules, especially in high-wind regions. By addressing pry-out failures caused by extreme winds, this solution offers a robust and efficient alternative to traditional bolting methods.
Key Benefits:
🔧 Reduced installation time and labor costs by decreasing the number of bolts per module.
🔧 Increased load capacity and stability of PV module and rack assembly.
🔧 One-handed torquing thanks to the bolt’s elongated head, which catches on the inside of the module frame.
Third-party testing has shown over 20% increases in module capacity compared to standard bolts. Our Chief Engineer, Scott Brian Van Pelt, P.E., highlights that this innovation not only boosts mechanical capacity but also improves installation rates.

This video should open eyes of buyers alias customers. Unfortunately examples like compromising on Safety and Quality due to cost pressures have become quite common. Also very tight or unrealistic timelines have fooled buyers and Customers end up spending more money to correct the mistakes entering through low cost solutions. All in the race of higher ROI on paper. Many times we forget cost of delay due to poor quality and its consequential business opportunity loss. But in reality, how many will admit successful numbers at the end of budgeted life. The only merit of low cost solution is possibly is cash flow being spread over longer period, which has its own cost.
Manjunath Jyothinagar it’s a perfect assessment. It’s the buyers mentality where cost often trumps quality, safety, and functionality in business decisions. This short-sighted approach, while seemingly beneficial in terms of immediate cash flow, overlooks the long-term implications such as safety risks, additional costs for rectifying mistakes, and the loss of business opportunities due to poor quality.
This 'jugaad' or quick-fix mentality, while innovative in certain contexts, can be detrimental when it compromises the core values of a product or service. The pursuit of lower costs at the expense of quality not only impacts customer satisfaction but can also tarnish a company’s reputation in the long run.
The need of the hour is a paradigm shift in mindset, from prioritizing short-term gains to valuing long-term sustainability and customer satisfaction. It's about understanding that investing in quality and safety is not just a cost, but a critical component of building trust and ensuring long-term profitability. As consumers and businesses, we need to recognize the true cost of low-cost solutions and make more informed decisions that balance cost, quality, and safety.
Interesting failure mode. It is a pity that the video doesn’t show if the failure is also observed around the PV Plant.
A priori it’s seems a static issue maybe linked to the installation and the steel quality (since, as per the video, only one tracker is affected), nevertheless 2P structures are generally more sensitive to aeroelastic effect, maybe aerolestastic instability was triggered during construction (0* tilt) at low wind speed and this effect triggered the overturning 🤔… should be analyzed… Interesting fact: the external row failed…
Any thoughts?
In this video, the reasoning behind choosing linear actuators and dampers to drive and safeguard the trackers is explained. The linear actuators contribute to forming a stable triangular structure for the trackers, enhancing their stability. Additionally, the dampers offer dual protection, further ensuring the safety of the trackers. This approach enables the trackers to withstand diverse extreme environments effectively.

The role of quality assurance in the manufacturing stages of a project are crucial in mitigating future failure mechanisms during the operation of an asset, for fast growing industries this is even more important as less experienced or "honest" suppliers enter the market with increasing financial constraints and target margins,
The example below by Aria Chen shows the structural failure of the mounting beams for a solar tracking system on a single row due to either the weight of the panels or a weather event. If this is a manufacturing issue and is throughout the construction site this would require complete replacement of all of the foundation steel work to address.
