🔔Join our Spanish partners Centro Nacional de Energías Renovables (CENER) - National Renewable Energy Centre, Plataforma Oceánica de Canarias (PLOCAN) and Capital Energy on the radio podcast Transición-e, hosted by Julia Elizalde Urmeneta, for a deep dive into the intersections of energy, ecology, and the circular economy.
🆘Don’t speak Spanish? We’ve got you covered. To ensure accessibility for our international audience, we provide a summary below.
Beatriz Mendez , PhD (CENER), Ivan Prada Gamallo (PLOCAN) and Luis Filiberto García Hoyos (CAPITAL ENERGY) joined in this podcast to talk about AIRE Project, its objectives, and goals. By studying real climate conditions in different climate areas, current prediction models for wind farm design and blade design will be updated and optimized. This update aims to include information about the specific events they face, potentially ensuring longer lifespans for the blades and higher energy production for the industry, wind farms, and promoters.
🎙 During the podcast, the speakers shared the difficulties encountered in the project, from managing a consortium of 11 partners with diverse backgrounds, to ensuring the successful operation of the experimental campaigns equipped with instrumentation and operating in 4 experimental and 4 industrial international wind sites under varied weather characteristics.
Beatriz and Iván also talked about the characteristics of the experimental wind sites of Alaiz (complex terrain with strong winds and storms, Pamplona - Spain) and PLOCAN’s site (subtropical climate and dust storms, NE Gran Canaria - Spain), respectively. They emphasized the diversity in climate conditions across each region and the importance of understanding the effects of those climate events on the blades. Not only wind, but also precipitation and sand storms have a strong damaging effect on the blades.
Luis, representing an industry partner, highlighted the relevance of having this kind of partners in the projects; it is key to know what the industry needs. He also talked about how representation of all the ecosystem, from administration to research centres, is key to ensure the success of these projects.
