In 2022 Geodis decided to invest additional resources to provide the best service to our clients. Our own Air Freighter. GEODIS has enriched its AirDirect services by entering a 5-year lease of its first aircraft to provide secure capacity and flexibility to its clients. This asset will help GEODIS offer main deck capacity with quality loading procedure, controlled and scheduled service to customers on main routes between Europe, the United States, and Asia. GEODIS’ Freighter will be used as an added solution to serve customers growing demand across vertical markets including pharma and healthcare industry with temperature-controlled shipments. Prior to having its own Freighter, GEODIS has already taken initiatives to secure air space and ensure reliable transit time for its customers. To do so, the Group charters aircrafts multiple times a week on direct and permanent lanes via its AirDirect offering. These lanes include Europe <> Asia, Europe <> United States. Yet, due to the pandemic inducing flight delays and cancellations, GEODIS had to take a step forward by launching its very own Freighter that is now integrated into GEODIS’ AirDirect schedule. This initiative adds more flexibility for the Group since it will be fully in control of the Freighter and therefore provide a more reliable, faster, and consistent shipping solution for its customers.  GEODIS will offer the entire range of its air freight services – AirFast, AirSave, and AirFlex. It's worth paying attention to FedEx's 'Network 2.0' fleet plan against the broader integrated freight industry. In 2021 FedEx Express were looking at a 330+ new aircraft plan to meet future forecast cargo demand. Enter 2024, and the airfreight operator has retired nearly 20% of its aircraft fleet and contracted out more of its feeder fleet, in seeking profitability, optimisation, and streamlining. “FedEx is completely redesigning the network over the next four or five years and will continue to be less reliant on aircraft than it has in the past... The company has too many aircraft for the volume it is flying, but also, the volume has changed since the company’s founding."
